after work last night when i read this its like i thought surf fisherman were a little different than most if u have to ask that question and cant figure out a way to set a rod holder u shouldn't be fishing down the beach .because if something goes wrong u wont be able to handle it.as for setting mine i beat em and never thought of another way,but i guesse i'm just too primitve of an outdoorsman to do it anyother way!!

If you're not too busy being an awesome primitive outdoorsman...maybe you can stop flapping your gums at people for asking perfectly innocent questions and show the rest of us what your definition of a good question is... Rolling Eyes

Just suck it, it works! If anyone jokes about this I will beat you with the rod holder. This is by far the easiest and fastest way to set a PVC rod holder into moist sand. Even though the technique is not very appealing, it works great.
I made it popular and proud of it.
Second best is to use a shrimp pump.
Third is a post hole digger.
Then a sharpshooter shovel.

This is safe to do on PINS. I would not advise this method on South of Bob Hall (Broke Back Beach). You might attract a crowd. Shocked

I have used the bottom half of a beach umbrella, the kind with what looks like a prop molded onto the part that goes in the sand. Just twisted it in and it held fine...
