| Heading to a Cabin with friends this weekend and leaving from Bird Island Basin. Anyone know the rules regarding carrying a concealed handgun with a license there? Thanks. |

Sure, just make sure that you QTX before you MRZ. _________________ Big Ed

Guessing by Bird Island Basin you mean the boat ramp in PINS? Not allowed to carry inside the park. It was allowed for a time and then they reversed the ruling that allowed you to concealed carry in national parks. Once you're out on the boat and down in Baffin it's no different than if you were in a car driving or out in public. With the way things are in the park right now the odds of getting away with sneaking thru the park and leaving the boat ramp without getting caught are not good. They're looking hard at everyone and they've been doing alot of searching vehicles lately. Search old threads for info. It's an understatement to say that alot has been said about things on PINS lately. _________________ “Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. | Its illegal to keep a loaded weapon.. I still always took mine though when I was heading to cabins.. Secure the ammo and clips very far from the handgun so they are no accessable.. then You can legally have the firearm in your stuff.. Just make sure you tell them if they ask you.. Once you leave the park boundries ( other side of ICW ) you can rearm your handgun |

| From my understanding it has to be in the chamber to be technically loaded.... Meaning a you must (#@(@# your gun before its technically loaded... Can someone calrify this for me/others? Jason Slocum |

| Appreciate the reply. I heard the rules changed. Better knowing the rules than to have your license taken. Thanks. |

Looks like we should get it back next February..
Jason, Notice the second quoted paragraph! This is from the current pins website http://www.nps.gov/pais/planyourvisit/things2know.htm
| Quote: | Firearms
Loaded firearms are strictly prohibited. A Concealed Handgun License issued under the authority of the State of Texas, or another state, is not valid at the National Seashore.
Unloaded weapons may be possessed only when such weapons are rendered temporarily inoperable, or are packed, cased or stored in a manner that will prevent their ready use. |

I see a loophole here. If the safety is on and working properly the gun is technically "rendered temporarily inoperable" meaning if one pulls the trigger nothing is going to happen. the second method having my gun "rendered temporarily inoperable" is not having a round chambered. Nothing will happen if you pull the trigger and the firing pin doesn't have a primer to hit That's my story and I'm sticking to it... Jason Slocum |

Rodbreakers comment about wifi is the funniest thing I have read in a long time.
Take the clip / ammo out and store seperate from the gun, not on your person. A trigger lock along with that will go along way. You know like you were going hunting in another country like, say Canada.
God that was hard to type. |
