If i had to guess, I would bet that the reason they aren't caught at that size too often is a change in feeding patterns at that size, not necessarily because they as rare as we may think. A 40 inch trout could probably eat 2-3 10 inch mullet in a week, and not feed at all the rest of the week. I would bet at that size they are pretty much strict fish-eaters. Im sure fishing pressure over time doesn't help in terms of them being common, but there must be a reason why they rarely show up on hook/line but seem to be there after freezes/fish kills. Just an educated guess though _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

| OK, no multiple choice answers - give it your best shot. But Bayslammer's mention of Oso is in complete agreement with a prediction made several years ago by a TPWD net survey team. So Bayslammer, final answer? |

I have seen my fare share of enormous trout on the surf so I would have to second Tyler on the surf pic, although when I have seen them they are usually cruising by on the edge of the water and don’t appear to be feeding. Any info from Mr. Sandifer on what he has witnessed on the surf. _________________ The Hardhead Whisperer |

My mom used to go fishing with her buddy back in the early 80's. They would go around the area of the lift bridge and always bring home an ice chest full of trout who's head AND tail would stick out of the ice chest. Although I have loved fishing since I was a kid, that was a time in my life when I was busy chasing skirts and having other types of fun. Back then I never gave it a second thought but now I am astonished at the size of the trout she would bring back. I know for a fact that there were some 35"-40" specks in the mix. We always ate our share and her buddy would sell his share. We never thought about records or anything of that sort. We were just happy to have the food.
