| I just talked to my buddy. Hit nighthawk, boathole and several other spots this morning. He said he found reds all over and sight casted a bunch but they all had lock jaw. |

Well the conditions haven't been the best, kinda windy, red tide, high pressure...you know all the excuses we use.
Fish are still there.

Was the tide moving? The moon should have them feeding with tide movement.
What kind of bait or lure and what was the color of the water?

Hey fishinglady! Just posted my report from yesterday fishing with Mike. LOTS of rat reds around your house. But there are some drum cruising around and an occasional slot red mixed in, from what we experienced. _________________ Jeff

Hitting in Copano near Turtle Pen, back side of Newcomb Bend and around Redfish Point. Check out your maps and also take a look at the Port Bay/Copano joint area around Cape Valero aka Italian Bend. Lots of black drum in and around Port Bay off old Port Bay or 188.
Hope this helps. _________________ Mike |

I tried most every place south of JFK down to Emmond's hole.
Saw very, very little bait activity, very, very few mullet jumping, and almost no birds working. Seemed to be red tide in air from JFK down the intracoastal for a mile or so on Friday. Tried mudminnows for live bait [which did get one 20 inch red and a couple of large hardheads], dead shrimp which got one good sized piggy perch, but mostly used artificials--gulp, gold spoon, various plastics. A bait bucket with mudminnows died Friday night in the canal, and I saw evidence of red tide in the water in the canal Friday night.
I was hoping to hear that my problems finding/catching fish in the area was just a run of bad luck rather than the fish disappearing to escape the red tide. If the fish are really gone, it is going to be a long winter....I'll probably read every book in the library if I can't go fishing...... |

flounder are staging along drop offs in channels. I am targeting them by wading the edges of the channels, and tossing pumkinseed/chart plastics or gulps. I am using heavier jigheads and slowly jigging the lure along the bottom. The reds are staging on top of these channels with the high tides we are having. i actually saw the flounder take the lure in the clear water of packery channel. I caught the reds in calf deep water up against the little bank. I did not see them until they chased my lure. I stopped the lure and they inhaled it.
I have picked up flounder on every trip the past 2 weeks, except when the red tide is present. |
