I thought that most of the gas down here is ethynol free. I don't think the plants down here blends it yet........... I could be wrong??????????? I'll see if anyone around here knows.

I believe there has to be a sticker on the pump saying it has ethanol mixed in. However I have made at least one mistake in my life

Legally i believe they have to post E85 or some such thing if ut has Ethanol.
I remember a big stink about it on 2Cool when they started doing it in Houston.
Lot's of offshore guys breaking down offshore, plastic fuel tanks breaking down, gunk being broken loose in the fuel system, fuel seperators pluggin up.

From what I remember, just changing your fuel lines wasn't going to do it

Either way, please let me know, because I didn't even think to look at the gas pump at the stripes in AP when I fuilled up the boat 2 weeks ago.

E85 is blended fuel with 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. I don't think there are any places in Corpus that sell it. I could not find any in an on-line search. I know it is more common in San Antonio and Houston since they are pollution non-attainment areas and have to use the blended fuels. I have even seen it at the HEBs in both cities. There are huge signs if it is E85. The only real common vehicles that can use this are the GM FlexFuel vehicles. Do not use it if your vehicle is not designed for it no matter how much cheaper it is.
I did not think there was any ethanol in the local fuel since we are still in pollution attainment. However, I have seen a lot of pumps locally that say "MAY CONTAIN UP TO 10% ETHANOL". If we go out of attainment we will already have the signs on our pumps or if ethanol was super cheap and gasoline was super expensive it may be worth it for the refiners to blend it.

Yeah- the E85 (85% Ethanol) pumps are the yellow ones and so are clearly identifiable. What I'm seeing more and more of are the small stickers on the regular pumps that say "Contains up to 10% ethanol". I think it's correct that they are supposed to apply these stickers if it does in fact have Ethanol mixed in, but I still wonder if everyone's being dilligent in doing so...

BTW- E85 appears to be cheaper, but if you do the math, it just aint so. It has only about 2/3 the efficiency of gasoline. I've run E85 in my Sierra. With gasoline, I get about 16.5 mph. With E85, it drops to about 10 mpg.

So, the reason I'm asking this in the first place is that I'm running down to Baffin this weekend and am looking to maximize my fuel efficiency by using pure gasoline.

Yeah, the E10 blend is common in pumps nowadays. It is found at Walmarts, HEBs, Shells and Valeros. I won't fill-up at Exxon, as theay alays rpice a little higher. I get 18 on the HWY with it, as compared to 20 with straight gasoline, so it reduces mileage, but not alot.

It is is a little cheaper and the gasoline companies are doing it almost accross the board in order to keep the EPA off their backs - "Look we are already selling E10 at all of our locations."

The ethanol is blended in at the refinery. I guess they truck it in?
