Made a quick trip to Packery South Jetty this AM, hoping to catch a trout or red on the ocean side of the South Jetty. Arrived just before daylight, and quickly started coughing, burning eyes etc. Looks like the RED TIDE has made it here too. Once there was some light you could see quite a few dead fish (mostly mullet) both flushiing out of the channel and washing up on the beach. Water was cruddy color.
If that was not bad enough, it looks like the easy access to this section of beach since reopening has already turned it in to another fine open air dump!!!! Why is it so @$%*& hard to pick up your trash?? I was out two weeks ago on the South Jetty, and it was clean. I guess if you worked hard to get there, you carried out what you carried in. Top of the Jetty is littered w/ trash, trashed cast nets, mono line etc. Really speaks to our ability to respect our "right" to vehicle accessible beaches. Hate to say it, but if I was a developer that wanted to build a resort I too would stipulate vehicle free beaches. Close the beach and I will Kayak over to a clean un-crowded South Jetty! |

Naples, if you hate to say it, would you be surprised if I hate to hear it?
The Beach Blockers would love to seize on your words as part of their gospel.
Blame the oafs who trash everything they touch, including our public beaches, but in your anger don't punish the innocent majority. Pick up the trash if it offends you, and be careful what you wish for. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

Maybe, that trash was left by someone that had to walk from/too the condos and didn't want to pack it that far.
Are there trash cans out there?
Do we pay for workers/clean-up in this area? (Do we get it?)
When I DRIVE out there I always take extra stuff out, and try only to leave tracks.
When people have to walk way out there they ALMOST always leave something.
Most importantly, when U see someone trashing the beach

| Trash is awful. Let's get some enforcement out there and it will stop. About 220 to 250 of us who drive on the beach pick up between 25 and 50 tons of trash each year during the Billy Sandifer Big Shell Cleanup not to mention the two GLO cleanups. Put the blame on the trash leavers. True some of the public are slobs let's ticket them and fine them into submission. |

Yeah it sucks. I was still able to fish my favorite spot but every now and then id feel a little crowded. Its the weekend though and you can expect that. Even when it was closed the weekend would get alot of people.
I have a bucket on my cart that serves as my trash can so when I leave I pick up whatever is around. I really cant stand the fishing line thrown its a big trip hazard. They need to put trash cans all the way out to the end, not just the 2 up front. _________________ -Mando |

South jetty had two trash containers as of today 10-11-06 that i saw, they were needed. Maybe a few more containers would be better for such a long jetty. ''TERMINATOR''
FORGOT ABOUT TALKING ABOUT PUTTING A PVC CONTAINER FOR FISHING LINE LIKE THEY HAVE AT BOB HALL, NOT TO MUCH TO ASK FOR. BETTER THAN HAVING LINE ON ROCKS AND IN THE WATER. |

| The PVC mono recycle container isn't on Bob Hall any more I took it down and moved it to Bluff landing. All we were getting in it was trash. almost no line. I wanted to put it out at the end of the pier but parks dept made us put it where it was. We are going to try and get some more made and maybe get some on the jetties. |

Trash cans would be better out there. ....And a plan to dump them regularly. _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!- |

I agree w bluffer about getting the trash can emptied regularly. I can"t count the number of times that I have seen trash cans/dumpsters overflowing with trash on the beach and along the bays. It might help if some of these trash receptacles were emptied a bit more often. The main issue though, is that when WE see a full dumpster, WE take the trash somewhere else to throw it away. These people never even see the dumpster. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |
