I'm going to get a little soap boxy here so if you don't want to read it don't, just skip on down to the pic. I'm posting a lot lately in hopes of eventually making a point. I've lurked on these boards for years but never posted much cuz I don't like all the irresponsibility on our beaches & I am trying a new approach. I selfishly have not posted in the past because I thought it would bring more people to the already too crowded southern end of "our" beautiful South Texas beaches. Not posting, saying nothing, is not the right approach.

We have to tie our dog up to the truck cuz he doesn't know anything about cars & would surely be run over if we didn't. What kind of atmosphere is that if your dog can't run around & sniff crap without being run over? What about your kids??? Tie them to the truck too?

One of these days we may not be able to drive up & down our beaches. I don't give a s@$%* if you want to haul a$$ naked (in our case down here) in your truck or whatever, just slow down where people are camped, fishing, set up.... etc. It's not that difficult. And of course always drive 15 mph during turtle season, those turtles can really dart out in front of you.

Sorry for the bitchin, but the difference in fishing last Saturday & today is just too large. I'm fortunate I can sneak away during the week but the majority of us can only fish the weekends. There are going to be a lot of good folks from these boards on PINS this weekend for Sharkathon. You guys tear em up, have a great time! but also try to remember & teach a few folks that apparently don't know it's also a responsibility to drive on the beach. I stupidly yell at a lot of folks going by. Probably not a good idea.

Man, I'm officially an old fart now. Never thought I'd be publicly complaining about such things. Guess you gotta do what you feel you gotta do sometimes.

Now here's my point. Actually it's Billy's point. He said it last year in a post, in his own unique way, & I'm just bringing it up again. He told me a few years ago, his exact words I don't remember.... there is a big difference between looking & seeing. If you take your time, look around, observe.... etc you never know what you may "see."

There are several folks on these boards that "see." We all know who they are, and it's not done by haulin a$$ in the truck. I have a long way to go but I do aspire to "see" at least 1 something new every trip. Maybe if we all try & help people to slow down & "see" what is right there in front of all of us our beaches will become a safer place.

Again, sorry for the rant, good luck at Sharkathon this weekend & this is what I "saw" today.

23.5" fat surf Trout on the 5th or 6th cast. Released. A blowup, tail slap & missed fatty on about the 10th cast, that was it for fish today. Both within 20 feet of the sand. Wind started crankin pretty hard much earlier than anticipated. New plan, look around for a while instead of going back to the keyboard to work. Never know what you may "see."

Too Cool! Yep, we have been preaching about speed and it just takes a few to ruin things for everyone.

That is a neat point. Most of the beach finds are more worn than that. Charlie Golla or Billy would know but that looks like a Kinney point to me several thousand years old.

Rob, don't worry about how you think you're going off on a rant, and I think you should post like this more often!

people who dont know, well, come to think of it, all of us at one point in time didn't know, so help a fellow brother out when you see him stepping out of line.

yelling may get you shot at, but not saying anything will get you in worse trouble when rights are eroded or dogs or something else dies from someone speeding.

nice point, literally, and pun intended.

It always pays to stop and smell the roses.

Your right Tyler, that point is nice, and it looks to be fairly rare; but there is something even rarer in that picture - the ruler.

It says "MADE IN U.S.A." on it.
