Thank you to Top Dog 15 for the three new surf rods. Rained out today, but gonna take the wife tomorrow. I gave her a new surf rig for her birthday (I have her tickets to a show too), she seems to be happy.
I bought some 1 1/2" PVC, but I wanted to know how long to cut the holders. The pipes ar 10' long, I was going to cut it into 5' pieces. Also though about going 4' leaving some 2' pieces for a jetty rig I'm building.
Any thoughts? _________________ Johnny D

| I aint top dog, he cooks with mesquite. I can tell you, cut your 10 footers in half. But cut them at a sharp angle and use schedule 80 pipe. They last longer. L |

| flare the top end by heating till soft and shoving it over the neck of a heavy wine bottle. Makes for a nice smooth edge that will save the handles. |

maybe its just me.....but i dont mess around with the handles and sharp edges thing. one piece of pvs..two straight ends...3-5 ft long. works just fine if you know the trick.
it makes me laugh when i see people trying to hammer in their pvc. _________________ "When times are tough,

Now why didn't I think of that???
Thanks for the tip...I have torn up more than a couple of handles on the sharp edges. _________________ WORK TO LIVE, LIVE TO FISH |

| I also drill three sets of two parellel holes on the sharp end and use a piece of rebar (through the holes) to drive the pipe into the sand. Kinda like a pogo stick sans spring. |

I would cut it in half at a 45 degree angle. Use a rubber mallet to put them in the sand.
Laught all you want but it takes me maybe 10 or 15 seconds each and I am done. I laugh at the guy who turns his back in forth in the wet sand, knowing there rod and reel will be going to sea soon when a big wave hits the beach or a big fish hits the bait. |

We use a fence post driver. Just a couple of good whacks and they're good to go. |

| ghost shrimp pump from roys sucks them right into the ground. or just a rubber plug that will fit in a 2 " pvc snugy and a broom stick. drill a hole through the plug put a washer and a bolt and suck them right into the ground... |

| Problem is, the sucking method or pump method only work in wet sand, which is unstable. I like mine in a little drier sand. I have almost lost two rods and reels to big fish with my pole holders in sand that was too wet. Not letting that happen again. |

Trust me on this, Make them 5 foot and 2" schedule 80. The 2" go into the sand easier and it is easier for you to get your rods out when a fish has them in a bind. I drilled a 3/4" crossways through the upper end about 1 1/2' from the top and put a 1/2" X 1' piece through it to use in a back and forth screwing motion and they go right in. Sink them down about 2 feet and they will not pull out when a fish gets on.
Karen and I will be down about the 18 mile mark tomorrow on PINS if you want to join us and see what I mean...Adios
