I have fished the Surf Cats for the last 24 years and have decided to enter the thong for the first time. I like the format and if by chance you hit a money fish it will boost your boot money significantly. The fish so far in the tournament have been very respectable, however there has been money left on the table. I have been sharking for 26 years and have never broken the 10 foot mark. (8’ 7” Bull is my best to date) over the years we have lost 2 fish in a 14 foot Zodiac 17 miles off shore at the rigs that would of challenged us to return to shore. I have some great mentors like John (Jig Master) in SA and Mike (Jiggy Azul) in Port A, who have forced the big fish issue. That is why we never shark fish with less than a 12OT. (Ever been stripped on a 9 OT Sealine twice in 3 years?) So here we have a tournament that does not limit size to 4-6 foot. We have people that think that you can land a 500# + fish drunk at night with a 6 OT half spooled in the ripping current of the Devil’s Elbow. Let alone catch and release and take three photos. We are fishing against anyone with a 12 OT and up with the ability to pace themselves and a camera man. This limits the field to 25 and the right place at the right time factor.
I am pot committed with a new to me kayak and E-Bay contraband to the tune of $1,250.00. So here is my Dilemma, I just got a call for some steady work the day after the tournament. The right thing would be to not go and get ready for the new work. As the Clash said it best “Should I Stay or should I go now”

Look, the fishing will always be there. That tournament can be fished next year, and the year after that. A steady job with good pay is rare these days.

Take the job, do the right thing. That first impression could set up your entire career - good or bad.

I have given up fishing on a regular basis myself right now because my career hit overdrive and is going very well. I have some chances for significant promotions over the next year or so, and what that meant for me and my family's lifes had to come first.

You've already entered. Fish till Saturday evening. If you don't have the money fish call it quits and rest up for work Monday.

If you catch a giant 10 foot shark you wont need money for food, besides money and work is overrated.

Think skip Jack has had the best suggestion yet although big John is right. Since your pot committed already-unless selling your spot why not get ready for NY now. Have everything u can think u will need ready and hit the tourney also. U may be a bit tired but won't u have atleast have a few hours to sleep? Sure the thrill of the tourney and heading to a new state to make good cash will have the adrenaline pumping to get u through it just fine. My vote goes
to fishing then work if able to do both. If u ask my mom it will be the other way around. FISH ON!!!!!
