myself, the old man and uncle made a rig run today. on the water a little before 6. calm, calm, calm. great conditions. got some bait and gas and out the jetties we went. little to no surf made it easy to get out. one bad thing....NOT ONE SNAPPER.oh well. lots of menhaden blowin up around the rigs along with some HUGE spadefish...i tried like hell to catch some, but have no idea how, all my efforts were pointless. i caught one nice smack..dad caught one REALLY NICE smack and uncle caught a nice king. had a few big hits while jigging...zipped some line and let go...maybe small AJ's? lots os fun. cant wait for next time!
OH...if you look at the pic of me with the rig in the background....in the corner of the helipad you can barely see a pelican......about 3 pounds of his crap came within about 2 inches of my head 10 minutes after that pic was taken. close call!

BR, spades are suckers for very small pieces of peeled shrimp on a #2-3 Owner Mosquito hook. I got into some 2-3 lb spades in Destin two years back. I also caught a 29" red fishing the same way and time. A 2.5-3 lb spade can pull a 29" red backwards!!!
I had to switch to my 30 lb gear because I broke two off with my "lighter" rig, which was 14 lb I think!
GREAT eating!!! _________________ Dave

DAAAANG!.....it was a school of about 20 or so. they were a little ways down and could still see some good size...my guess is they were AT LEAST 2.5 lbs.
