I just read an article regarding camping on the Spoil Islands. I cant remember the publisher at this time but the main point the author was trying to make was that you need to camp at least a foot above the high tide line. His reasoning is that a vessel going fast enough or a large enough vessel may swamp your campsite! I will try to locate the article and relay that info to you.

That aint no joke about a tug or barges going by. I have seen them make some nasty wakes.

Something dark with loud rattles or variations there of and the more moon the less dark and loud baits have to be for artificials anyway

I found the article in LoneStar Outdoor News. Volume 5, issue 20, June 12,2009. www.LSONews.com

It's a small article, 1000 words or less. It stresses 3 things to watch for: Waves, Water, (getting into everthing) and Mosquito's. He called these big waves "Campers Tsunamis." Said these waves can originate up to 10 miles away from a passing ship and roll up on you up to 30 minutes later!
Someone may have to pull wave-watch duty! Shocked

Looking forward to your report...good luck as I appreciate your pioneer spirit.

I wonder if you could pack a generator out there? Idea

That is how we fished 9 mile hole back many years ago. Go down on Friday night and come back sunday. Put your camp up enough so boat wakes wont roll in on you. Thermacell in your tent for mosquitos.

We used an anchor for the bow of the boat and then shoved out push pole down and tied off the stern to keep the boat from swinging with the wind and current.

Make sure your food is in a good secure box. Coons can get into almost anything.

Try some fried trout with your scrambled eggs in the morning. Hard to beat.
