The hope expressed in Bill Shipman's LTTE about the petition has already been fulfilled, at least in draft form; I've seen it. Barring some unlikely changes of heart at the City Council, there'll be thousands of signatures on it next month.
On a related subject, has anyone else written the San Antonio Express-News to thank it for publishing Anton Caputo's two articles on the beach closure issue this week and for sending him to the council meeting Tuesday to report on it first-hand? The SAE-N has a state-wide circulation and should be encouraged with all the feedback we can muster to keep up the good work. Since they can't help by signing the petition, it would be especially encouraging if some of the San Antonio residents would at least write letters to their home-town paper and ask their elected reps what they're doing to protect the rights of beach drivers from San Antonio. Maybe reading what their constituents think about it will in turn encourage those reps to introduce legislation stopping coastal cities from continuing to increase their tax bases by stealing the state's commons. It took similar legislation to stop condemnation for tax base inflation.

No tourists wanted
I see the City Council has finally given Paul "I get what I want" Schexnailder the 7,216 feet of beach front he wants before he will build his tourist attraction.
This is the very worst kind of "privilege to the few" type of government. I'm not going to vote to re-elect any member of the City Council who voted for this charade.
I hope that the people who were against it before don't give up. Let's get out the petitions, sign up again and make the city put this important issue up for a vote.
The greatest asset we have is a clean beach and dunes without motels, condos and this $500 million blight on the beach. Just look at South Padre Island if you have any doubts about what is going to happen here unless we stop it.
Let's keep our beach for ourselves and our children.
As far as I am concerned, I don't want Corpus Christi to be a tourist destination.

| Here, Here, Keep the faith---- Sign the petition and have you friends and family to sign it.... With the amount of people that vote here a few hundred votes would change everything..... |
