top, I'm the only person in this thread on this side of the discussion so when you make statements like "uneducated and irresponsible" what am I supposed to think?

Might as well be the PETA motto. By your logic, what gives us the right to kill a deer, slot red, cow for a burger??? See what I'm saying? Animals don't have a rigiht to life, they have what we give them.

We, like all other animals, have the right to kill for food. Whether a deer kills a sunflower for food, or a coyote kills a rabbit, they do it for one reason. FOOD! As an avid hunter/fisherman I have no objection to killing for this reason. Unless you're eating the snakes you kill, your argument has no foundation. That's the difference between killing a deer, slot red, cow for a burger.

Lets ban driving, more people killed every year in autos than by all the animals, sea life and insects combined. But ohhhhhh noooooo, that would make to much sense.

Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear.
Dune
by Frank Herbert

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

That's nice Johnny, but it's not fear that drives me to kill snakes, it's protection. That's a common misconception, while some kill out of fear most do not. Fear is not logical it's irrational. Reducing snake numbers to reduce risk of bites in human-frequented areas is logical. Whether right or wrong to do so, it's logical to conclude that there will be fewer snakebites if there are fewer snakes (venomous only, others don't matter). I don't fear snakes much really, when I was younger I'd catch rattlers alive to bring to the taxidermist down the street from where we lived. He'd put them in the freezer whole and kill them that way to avoid messing up the skin, then he'd make full mounts and sell them at shows and such.

Good points there topdog, and I'd agree with all that on the surface. I'd have to point out though that there are many in the animal kingdom who kill to protect their young, which is exactly what I'm doing. Wink There are also plenty of examples in nature of animals who kill over competition for food sources, such as adult polar bears killing youngens over the baby seals after they're caught (they do not eat the younger polar bears afterward).

mastergunner, sorry buddy but that doesn't make any sense. You're comparing apples to a monkey's rear end. Laughing

To use your on "logic", to reduce something that is a danger to humans where they go is logical, well then according to your logic we should stop driving because people have a higher risk of being killed in an auto accident than they do from a snake bite. You don't want your kids around areas that have snakes but you have no problem driving them there???? What kind of logic is that??? Also this will be my last post under this subject as I am wasting my time and that is unlogical.

justletmein, Bennett_Taz has the snake phobia as his reason for reacting. He and others with this very real affliction get uncomfortable just talking about them. As I wrote earlier, there are cures for that. By association with PINS and sci-fi novels, the allusion to Herbert popped in there as a fictional example of a cure. Sorry, B_T, I meant only to express sympathy.

On the other hand, justletmein, YOUR behavior has no redeeming explanation, just lame rationalizations for it. There's no cure for that. I agree with B_T, mastergunner and the rest that there's also no point in arguing with you any longer.

mg, I have the choice to kill snakes, but society now days driving is not optional. Furthermore, I don't let fear control me but I'll take logical precautions to reduce risk. For example, late model vehicle with good tires, kill venomous snakes, etc. Trying to equate the killing of a snake with driving hazards simply because the stats fit the bill is rediculous at best.

Well I'm glad you opted out of the "argument" (your word, I call it a discussion) because it's hard for me to have a decent discussion when all I can get from the other side are snide comments and personal attacks. Rolling Eyes
