Hey guys, I need some advice and I know this is the place to go for help.
Here's the situation. Some friends are coming down from San Antonio July 4th for a camping trip. Most of us are using tents, but one couple is thinking about bringing their travle trailer/fifth wheel. I personally don't think it'll get very far down P.I.N.S., but can I get anyone else's opinion that may have taken their trailer down and how far you guys think someone might be able to pull it? I'm thinking not much further past the four wheel drive sign, although there are lots of variables to consider. Anyone's input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

| Do you know what they will be pulling the rig with? With the conditions in big shell right now I'm guessing that would be your limit no matter what they are using. |

| I was just down PINS last weekend. There are soft spots starting around 2 miles down. In order to avoid the 4th madness, you will need to get a good ways down if there are good driving conditions, maybe past the 4WD sign. You will not be able to take the low road during the day because it will be blocked. You might be able to drive the low road at night if there is a night time low tide. I would suggest getting the trailer in Thursday night or early Friday morning as far down as you can and then make that your camp. But, do not try to leave Sunday night. I seen it take 2 or 3 hours to get over the causeway after a holiday weekend when there is good weather. Note, camp on the beach side of the road but above the high tide line. If not, the autos will kick up sand in your face every time they drive by. We have had serious rain and wind on the 4th for the past 2 years. It looks like it is going to be dry and hot this year. I think your trailer will be ok. Just watch what the other trailers are doing and have a blast. |

With no rain in a long time I would imagine that driving on the PINS without 4 wheel drive would be pretty difficult. They may be better off stay in the parking lot at the pavilion. Do they have a camping area just before the pavilion for trailers? _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it. |

My father, brother and a friend of my brother went down last week for a couple of days and they took my dad's pop-up camper and it was a disaster. It was bad driving and the camper took about 300.00 dollars in damage. _________________ wishin i was fishin! |

| We went down PINS Saturday and there were travel trailers down around 7-8 miles. We only went 11 miles down and it was only tents that far. The driving was fine, little bumpy but not soft at all. We left @ low tide and the driving was excellent. By the way, we caught 6 trout between 15"-19" inches, countless skipjack, croaker, and a 18" red, all on live bait under a rattle cork. The wind was up earlier in the day but eventually died down and the water was murky but pretty calm. We stood out on the sandbar all day fishing. Great fun. |
