Is the Mangrove Snapper good eating. I have been told that they were better than trout. I find that hard to beleve. |

I guess I'm in the minority since most seem to have a trout fetish, but yeah I like those mangroves better but pick a nice *fried* slot red over both. _________________ Jeff

Like all snappers, mangroves are really good. They are the perfect type of fish to bake/grill whole (gilled and gutted, head and tailed of course). Dont doctor it up, dont play with it. Just a little butter, salt and pepper. White flaky meat.
Alright, now I am hungry.... _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

You know, I was thinking that but never tried. Should be better than a big red snaps b/c they're smaller, no?
Gotta get me some more mangroves. _________________ Jeff

Those Mangroves are excellent just about any way you can fix them. I know it is just a personal preference but I'll take them over Trout any day of the week. Also, like Frayed I'll take a Red any day over Trout also but those Mangroves are good stuff. I'd rate Mangroves, small Grouper and Pomps at the top, with Reds close behind. _________________ Big Ed

Mangroves are excellent table fair. IMO, better than Red Snapper, and certainly as good as trout. In the end I eat them all, I am not that picky and certainly enjoy a variety of fish and preparations. _________________ Capt. Ross L. McElwee

One of these days I will try one. I am not much of a fish eater. That is why I will mostly catch and release. Well mostly I don't catch and then don't have to release. I have no problem catching, cleaning and cooking a fish for someone else. _________________ Give a Man a Fish and he will eat for a day. How's your cooking? If it works out like you say your fishing does, maybe that's why you're not much on fish! _________________ Dave
