I wanted to know if there is anything that I need to be aware of entering St. Charles Bay coming from Aransas Bay. I heard there were some reefs around that area. If anyone has any info of where they might be or anything else I might need to be aware of please let me know. Any info would be appreciated.

Gotta be some more experienced boaters on here but yes, reefs galore there. I ran a boat through there awhile back, and they can be traversed if you're careful and watchful. A Hook n Line map will be helpful.

Dave, first get one of the Hot Spot maps and review it closely. If tides are high for spring there are some reefs that will be concealed. From Aransas Bay, make sure you enter through the marked channel that leads to the Goose Island ramp channel. It is the pass that is farthest to the east with one marker (white post) out front then there are channels markers inside.

There is a huge area adjacent to the Goose Island peir that is one big reef. Don't try any of the appearent cut in the reef. The guts change to shoals in an instant, not mention there are normally waders in that area who do not (should not) expect boat traffic.

Once you are past the Goose Island channel you need to know what the map says and be on your guard. Take is easy and you'll do fine.

Once you cross the Goose Island channel stay to your left going into St. Charles Bay. The water is deeper along the mainland shore line untill you get down to the boat ramp in St Charles Bay. The water is very shallow to the right for long way across..

Thanks for the info guys. I was planning on doing some further research on that area for sure. I was thinking of going by myself, but I decided that I need to go with someone who knows that area first. I know there can be some good fishing up there, but it will have to wait for me. I appreciate the replys, every little bit helps.

best to launch from st charles bay instead of navigating reefs from goose island. Slight southerly pickup in the wind and those slightly submerged reefs will disappear because of chocolate brown water. Watch St charles also, seen some submerged pipes at low tide that will make your day...
