Hello again everyone...My roomate and I just finished up summer classes and have week off to do something. We are thinking of renting an rv...
I would be willing to pay and feed anyone with a 4wd vehicle to help tow us down a couple more miles past the stop point for 2wd vehicles. We just want to get where the fishing might be a little better and more secluded...Also if this goes through everyone is more than welcome to join us. We will be there from the 18 to the 22nd.

It has been my experience on PINS that when you find a place that is open for 2 miles on each side of you someone will come and park 50 yards away from you. Many people can't do something unless they involve someone else in their memory of the event.

I dont really care if we are too near people, I just wanted to get away from the main swim and recreation zone because the fishing is never as good....

What Size RV are you planning on renting? Last time I check into renting one – $$$$$$$$$$$$ You may find it cheaper to rent a 4X4 truck and a pop up and go down. I don’t want to take any beer from anyone but it is an alternative. I have only driven down past the 4X4 2 times and each time I made sure the tides would be low so I could take the low road. I have an AWD Astro Van RV conversion and it has worked for me so far with no trouble at all. Next time in 6 weeks or so it could be different. Good luck and have fun.

That's funny mastergunner. Last time I camped on Padre Island, my wife and I drove as far south of the 4WD sign as reasonable to get away from everybody (we only had a 2WD at the time, but decided to risk it anyway).

We finally parked, set up camp, kicked back to enjoy the isolation, and BINGO a bunch of jerks set up about 50 yards away. I was pretty pissed, but too tired to move. Luckily they only stayed one night.

That's just my luck though. I'm sure that if I'd looked for every isolated spot from there to the Mansfield jetties, someone would have set up right next to me.

I can understand the desire for solitude and isolation. Those qualities of PINS are obviously primary reasons some of us become addicted to visiting it. But, at the same time, those very qualities may instill an uneasiness in those of us with small children. Especially after sundown. When I and my 7 year old son stay overnight on PINS, we may fish and beachcomb in isolated areas, but we will always set up our overnight camp in fairly close proximity to other overnighters. Not within 50 yards, but close enough that, in the event of an emergency, help is reasonably close at hand. I have spent countless nights on isolated stretches of Texas beaches, have seen many bizarre and unexpected occurences, and although I am reasonably self-sufficient, if something happens to me, my son is not.
