| i started catching a few here and there about 3 or 4 years ago. From what i recall hearing they havent always been inshore. Though im not positive. I do know they are very good to eat. Usually find them around structure jetties, rigs |

I was catching mangrove (grey) snapper at the Port A jetties using live shrimp. They hit fast and you will go through alot of shrimp. They taste awesome. They were about 8 feet from the rocks. Fish on the bottom and be prepared to set the hook. Gaftop and Sheepshead were aslo eating the shrimp. (of course a live shrimp isn't going to last long on the bottom) I had a healthy stringer not too long ago. I even caught a couple bonnet head sharks that I threw back.
I used a 2/0 flounder hook and a slip weight with 20lb test. Be prepared to lose some tackle too when jettie fishing. _________________ Don't complain about the mud if you wished for rain. |

I caught 8 or 9 mangroves on August 3 at Gorda at the mouth of the Colorado. Peeled shrimp on a small wire circle cast 10-12 feet off the bank on a strong outgoing tide. First time I'd ever caught a mangrove. Good fun on Pico's Zebco 33. _________________ If at first you don't succeed, neither have I. |
