The trip for the most part was good, but I had my black cloud following me as usual.
We arrived Friday around 3 pm. Quickly unloaded the truck and launched the boat for an evening trip. Boat started fine, but would'nt take throttle. Bad top carb. Took it to Naples to find out that I would not be able to use it until Tuesday. Quick phone call to buddy Gary McKenzie in Bartow, FL and we had a replacement boat (Ranger Banshee Extreme). Drove to Bartow Sat. morning, picked it up and were on the water by 1 pm. Caught a few snook, trout and a red that afternoon. We fished several spots and found the giant snook and tons of tarpon about 25 miles away. We jumped a couple of tarpon and caught a few more snook including my sons largest at 27 1/4" and a small jewfish. Boat gets fixed on Tuesday so we took Gary's boat back tuesday evening. Get on the water Wednesday for some shark fishing. Chase catches a large stingray and then finally catches his first shark. By now he is in heaven with all the fish he has caught. We spent the last couple of days chasing the giant snook. We hooked 7 or 8 and landed one. The spot we were fishing was covered up with them. The problem was that they would only take live bait and we had a hard time catching mullet. The few we had were quickly used up. In all we caught snook, specks, reds, jewfish, jacks, sharks, stingrays, ladyfish and jumped 3 tarpon. If we would have been able to catch the white bait like the locals, the fishing would have been unbelievable. The trip back was just as fun as the trip there. We blew out both tires on the boat trailer. One in Florida and one in Victoria. If it was not for the good fishing, I would have thought I was cursed!

I forgot to mention the other sites.
We saw a manatee and had a group of dolphins chase the boat while almost on plane. If you look at the pictures, it looks like the dolphins are flying in the clouds.
On the last day, we caught an alligator gar that was fed at boat side to a large alligator. All fish were released unharmed except the gar and a jack used for shark bait. |

Good pics and a great report Larry. I know you and Underbrink had a great time, but having Chase along was the ultimate. He will remember this trip for the rest of his life, no matter how many times he gets to go.
My son is now 27 and even though we never made it to the Everglades, we made lots of memories and caughts lots of fish in our surrounding waters.

Cool... looks like you had great fishing and a heck of a road trip.
My last long trip last year to OH... $3,000. Transfer case went out on my Suburban and the dealership in Lafayette, LA bit me hard.
Everglades is an awesome place and driving Alligator Alley and all the rest. Been through there many times. The Panther (I think Panther) crossing signs is an awesome sight to see. Alligators along the ditch/channels right beside the road, well better not break down or end up off the road in the water.
Did you catch the smallest post office while going through the Everglades? Ocachee or something like that.
I hope to make fishing the Keys in July/Aug if all goes well. Try some fly fishing for Tarpon and fine two legged bathing beauties in Key West. " -) _________________ Live to Fish... Fish to Live
