in freshwater we like the moon to rise in the am and not be up all night - like deer hunting (of course when the moon is up all night we hunt around noon)

do yall see a difference in the bite in different moon phases? I know there are a bunch of factors - but just wondering

I always do better when the tide is coming in and that is due to the moon one way or another.. Not sure about the science of it... Very Happy

I can sum up my experience. A giant full moon is usually the kiss of death for PM fishing in the ocean, ie fishing the surf or BHP. In the bays, I have learned to just ignore the moon in the daytime. Last full moon (last Monday or Tuesday I think), I got a nice limit in the bays, kayak fishing for reds, Started at noon, finished at 4:30. Nice and easy.

Its good to plan trips around the last quarter of the moon rising, but you cannot catch a fish, if you dont wet a hook.

My personal experience has always been I catch more fish quicker prior to a full moon as in 2 to 3 days at night.

Floundering, I always do better at night around the new moon which is very dark.

Day or night time fishing, you want the water moving. Depending on if water is coming in or going out, determines location.

Bite is always better when I get a hook in the water, moon up...moon down...all nice things when you can pick and choose when you get to fish. Good friend and fisherman tells me new moon is his favorite, as you know living up here is SA, just go, it always good just getting there.

Well, that is the moon!!! Moon directly overhead or directly under foot is a MAJOR feeding period and the moon on the horizons are MINOR feeding periods.

So think about it.... Those really productive evenings just before a full moon, I have them too. Why? Because the moon rises before the sun goes down just prior to the full moon. That means you have a minor feeding period stacked on the natural end of daylight feeding period. WHAMMO, FISH ON!!!!!!

During the full moon, you have a major feeding period when the moon is directly UNDER foot in the middle of the afternoon. I always do really well fishing the middle of the afternoon on the full moon.

After the full moon I do well in the mornings when the moon sets mid morning stacking a minor feeding period on top of a natural sun up activity.

New moons rock because you have the same conditions as a full moon but dark dark nights. This means the feeding occurs mostly during the day.

Start taking note of the wildlife around you. You will start to notice such things as livestock feeding at 2pm on a 105 degree day. WHY??? The moon is either over head or under foot. Start watching and you will see it is true.

Moon and sun position are number 1 factor. If youhave a hard time understanding that get yourself a fishing watch, I like the Casio's myself. They are so darn accurate we can go have lunch on an off bite and go back to find no one caught anything or fishing is slow. But as soon as the watch indicates...the bite is on. Amazingly accurate.

I have been wearing a Casio Pathfinder Fishing watch for several years now. They are GREAT!!!! I got mine at Academy for $20 on sale. They allow you to set your HOME COORDINATES which then sets the solunar table info & moon rise/set info for that specific location. I used Google Earth to find the exact coords for my launch spot on B&R Flats. My Casio watch is set for sunrise/sunset. moon rise/set, and solunar table info for Aransas Pass which is perfect for me. It also has a fish counter, sort of. It has a time stamp function that will save 99 timestamps. So clear it out before a trip. Then each time you land a fish, push the fish counter button once. At the end of day check your timestamps and you will see exactly when you caught all your fish. This one will make you a believer, guaranteed. You do that a few trips and you will find you have more catches during feeding periods.
