|
|
| Hey all just lookin for some opninion on this touchy subject! I built my own blind from scratch prior to the first season. I realize that by law it is public property. However this morning I took my 12 year old daughter out for her first hunt this year. We got there 45 minutes prior to sunrise, and a group was there, I told them that my time and money had built this blind, and I desired to hunt it this A.M. to which they replied, I could call any game warden and they would enforce the first come first serve type mentallity. To make a long story short, My daughter didnt hunt this morning, because of this group of idiots! This has been buggin the heck out of me all day now! How do yall handle these type situations? |

I can't say anything nice about blind jumpers, so I won't say anything at all. _________________ Save the seagrass......Shoot some ducks |

| Happens all the time and yes it sucks but there isnt anything you can do about it other than have a back up plan. Avery type blind on your boat is a great way to go. It gives you an option two every time and allows you to move to where the birds want to be. |

That sucks! Potlickers as I call them. We no longer hunt out of blinds anymore- We use natural cover, fast grass, and utility sleds. We are 100% mobile which helps to move with the ducks and tides. Not to mention the potlickers cant hunt your spot!!!! |

Has that blind been disassembled yet, or perhaps fallen victim to a tragic lightning strike fire? _________________

I don't use blinds either. I think the ducks get blind shy the later in season it is.
I have heard that there is an "unwritten rule" that if you want to hunt a blind that you didn't build, then you should wait till after legal shooting time and if the owner is not there, then it is OK. I think David Sikes wrote this in one his columns some time ago.
Sorry your daughter didn't get to hunt. That was pretty rude of those guys but it certainly isn't worth getting into an altercation with them!
As someone else said, you need a plan B and maybe even a plan C. |

I've noticed in the past that unwritten rules are hardly ever read anumore since no one can read them
Have you had a chance to take your daughter out yet to hunt? _________________ What's good for me ain't necessarily good for the weak minded.... |

| Since you built the blind one assumes you had the right to remove it. Perhaps you should have just started dismantleing it on the spot. I would have certainly considered it. |

I think Sikes actually called it a "gentlemen's agreement", but people that act like those guys are anything but "gentlemen". |

I think the rule is an honest one. How did you get afternoon from "after legal shooting time?" How about 5 minutes after legal shooting time? This rule just assumes that if the builder/owner wants to hunt his stand he should be there early. If he gets there late then its his own fault. a good duck hunter would be there well before sunrise anyway.
Sorry but I agree with nearly everyone else. I believe in respect for other hunters/fisherman and their contributions... _________________ "There she is! Fish on..."
