Go with the XD....lots of great features, affordable, and fires EVERY TIME!!

My wife's favorite pistol to shoot is my 45...and she only weighs a buck o five!!

Glocks are not the safest pistols out there. Poor plastico burress found that out....Always keep you finger off the trigger, unless you are ready to fire! Especially with a Glock, which only uses a trigger safety.

Baby Desert Eagle...very dependable 9mm pistol. I was able to find a sixteen round clip before they were banned.

Like the post above mentioned, you need a pistol and caliber that your wife is comfortable with.. My wife doesn't like semi-autos. So, for a house gun I bought a .38 revolver ultra frame that fits her hand.. Both my wife and teenage daughter shoot this gun with confidence.. I have a 9mm and a .40 that they can shoot, but not with confidence..

It just comes down to what fits you/your wife the best.

Forget brand names and calibers first and foremost and have her shoot every gun available until she finds one she likes. It might take a while for her to decide, but she will be happier and feel much more comfortable with it if she likes it. My wife would rather shoot my Colt 1911 .45 than my 9mm XD because she feels better with it.

That being said I am an absolute Glock fanatic myself. The Colt and Springfield above are the only 2 non-Glock guns I own or plan to own. I personally can't stand thumb safeties and exposed hammers or grip safeties on a carry gun. I carry a Glock 23 when I can get away with it and conceal it well, and I carry a Glock 27 since it tucks away a little tighter. I have even put the 27 in an ankle holster with no problems.

If your looking to buy a gun to have for protection in your house....get a revolver not a semi auto. Easier to operate in high emergencies.....its always loaded....all you have to do is pull the trigger...not leave a bullet racked in like a semi auto or rack one in when the time ever does come that you need to use it. Plus...you never have to worry about jams. Every time you pull the trigger you can have piece of mind that there will always be a BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG...or BANG with a 6shot
