I put an amp meter on the 4509 and it draws 6.9 amps (ouch). As for the tax, the online businesses take it upon themselves to add tax to your order if you live (ship to) in the same state that they do. Cabelas nails you for state tax because they have retail stores in Texas. _________________ HighTide

There is a quartz version of this same light that has a 100 hour rated life. If you can tolerate a little less light, Lowes has some lawn/garden 12v bulbs that are 33w and 50w. You'll get longer battery life.
Maybe I shoudl rig up this 1000w rig bulb my girlfriend found washed ashore on PINS. I could wire 10 12v batteries in series to provide the 120v DC @ 8 amps the bulb draws. I think I'll need to beef up my battery raft though.

I found a 20 watt light that will match almost any 35 to 50 watt light, pulls 1.6 amps and is ultralight.
