i know there is NO limit on pompano and whiting and wednesday was to perfect, so i spent that day filling my freezer. me and my buddy caught 47 pompano and 48 large whiting. i couldnt believe it. average pomp that day was about 1.5 pounds.

Glad you got into them.
Guess you should have plenty for dinner for the next six months!
Personally, I prefer fresh pomps. "In my experience", they tend to go sour in the freezer after about a month. Others will disagree but I have picky taste.
Nice looking dinner plate! _________________ I am a pirate 200 years too late. |

I agree w/ Skipjack. While it's tempting to get as many as you can (I was the guy fishing next to you) they don't keep long in the freezer. Just my thoughts. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

Nice haul! I agree, eat them fast. For me, any pomp more than two weeks in the freezer is too much. It does something funky to the texture too. That after pic looks really good. Wish I could make it down this weekend, but another Saturday at the office. _________________ GOBZA!!!

I see no irony in the CCA hat. Three different guys, thats only 15 pomps each. No different than keeping a limit of trout and reds. I personally would not keep that many, but then there is only my wife and me. Now if I was throwing a cook out thnn I would keep them without any remorse in the least. _________________ Big Ed

I try not to stir the pot here, but I have to give my two cents on this one. I would rather not....but, to boast about hoarding fish because of the fact that there is no limit on the species caught is very unethical. To hoard fish merely to fill a freezer, when you fish all of the time is also hard to swallow. Nothing personal, obviously the poster eats fish regulary because he likes to post pictures of dinner. My problem is mine, and my opinion is not worth much..... but I feel better now.

hmmm......
NICE CATCH FELLAS!
I don't get down to the coast very often, but I'm just wondering, if I may be so bold...
what is the appropriate number of pomps I should keep and post the resulting photos of?
I have a wife, two boys (5 and 3), a chocolate lab, a cat, two small dogs, and 4 goldfish.
My freezer is a GE frost free 21 cubic foot, with automatic ice dispenser.
I want to make sure I have enough for a few meals, but not so many that people will get upset by the attrocity of a full stringer.
I feel better now as well. |

Ditto on the Food Saver vacuum deal, they work. Pompano and all other oily fish tend to go "off" flavor rather fats. Mahi-mahi is one of the best fresh, but frozen, especially after having sat in an ice chest for many hours.................................................... iffy at best. _________________ Dave
