The palomar is the most depenable knot that I have found, ESPECIALLY with slippery superlines. It CAN'T slip just by its physics. When using it on fluoro, great care must be taken when pulling the loops snug as one always seems to want to snug up first. Even when lubed with saliva, fluoro doesn't like to slip across itself much, and that's one problem when using it. ALL knots must be tied carefully and correctly! _________________ Dave

Palomar
Double uni
Uni Loop
I use these 3 and that's it. Palomar it the easiest knot for me to tie by far. And it holds!!!! I use it most o fteh time to tie on lures and terminal tackle. The double uni is for line to line like leader to braid. And the Uni Loop for topwaters or plugs that have lots o action.
The palomar and the uni knots are what Power Pro suggests for their braids because they won't slip. |

Trilene knot and double uni get's it done for me.
The trilene doesn't slip when I use it and I can tie it in my sleep.
Need to learn a good loop knot next.

The Palomar (or as my buddy insists on calling it, the Parliament) knot is by far the winner for tying on hooks, snaps, pre-made leaders etc. It is almost impossible to mis-tie this knot and the strength is excellent. This knot WILL NOT SLIP, period. Line to line is almost always the Uni, but occasionally I will use a Surgeons knot when I get lazy. _________________ Big Ed

I've used it up to 80 Flouro leaders for jigging offshore. It is a little bulky, but definitely manageable. and it works great. I watched some fishing show a while back where they'd been doing a knot-test tournament. I only saw the final match up, but it looked like they made a bracket with quite a few knots, probably 16-20. using scientific equipment so they could actually measure the breaking strength, the Palomar was the winner. After seeing that, I try to use it as much as possible. |
I saw either the same show or another where they did the same thing and two knots proved to be the strongest. They were the Palomar and the Trilene knots. Both knots held beyond the tensil strength of the line they were using. That was important to me because the Palomar (the strongest knot according to IGFA) can be difficult to tie to an artificial or a leader because you have to slip the entire rig through the loop.
I have used the Trilene knot without problems for years on trout and red fish, but I didn't know if it would be strong enough for the bigger fish like Tarpon, Jacks, and Kings I had recently started targeting. I haven't had much experience with it yet, but that show convinced me to give it a try in those situations. |

I have always used the improved clinch knot, and have never had a knot give out on me yet. Its easy to tie too. I think the palmoar looks interesting, but the hole has to be big enough to slip the line through doubled up. So forget using it with 3-0 or smaller hooks. I might give it a try on some of my bigger hooks when I make my next batch of leaders. _________________ GOBZA!!!

Try threading the line through the eye without doubling it, then rethread the line back through in the opposite direction.....quicker and much less frustrating. |

With hands as big as mine, that could get complicated. _________________ GOBZA!!!

the suergeons loop make a good dropper on a leader. I just loop a hook on each drop. very fast and easy knot. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |
