I just Purchased a Magellan Triton 1500 Hand Help Gps and was wondering if anyone out there has used any model in the Magellan Triton Family. Any feedback would be very much appriciated. If you dont what type of handheld device is the best for boat and kayak navigation in your opinion. looking for somthing simple and reliable.

| Garmin 478 is an amazing product that is giving me great performance. Two things to know: 1. they do not give them away 2. leave it at home if you ever fish with a guide. |

I have a Garmin RIno 130 - bought off eBay for $85. Actually I have two, because their gps and 2-way radios. Really handy when teaming up in the yaks. They're completely waterproof and they show the location of your partners.
I have had some trouble with them, but each time garmin has replaced them no questions asked - w/o a receipt. After two replacements I bought the second one, advertised as 'broken' off eBay for dirt cheap. When I got it I called Garmin, they said send it in and we'll send you a new one. Great customer service! _________________ Posted by

Garmin 76 series handhelds are great.
I've used magellan and garmin units. Garmin makes the better GPS in my opinion.
The magellan didn't offer the same features, especially on the mapping capabilities. Garmin gives you more options to customize the screen and waypoints and detail much easier.
I found magellan lacked on the mapping side. They may have fixed that by now. _________________ I am a pirate 200 years too late. |

Nuff said! I have a Garmin Etrec that is 2 years old. It's simple and very intuitive. I didn't need or want the mapping. I accidentally stepped on the thing two winters back and cracked the face plate so it it's no longer water proof. Even with that and having visible moisture inside, even a good amount of water from one rain AND using it three times since in a saltwater environment AND putting it in the stove on warm twice to evaporate the same, the darn thing STILL WORKS!!!!! I contacted Garmin a years ago about repairs and they gave me a RA# and a flat rate of $59.95 no matter what. It just keeps on ticking so I haven't bothered sending it in. One VERY good piece of equipment. Out on the water and WAAS enabled it is often accurate to 4-6'. That's close enough for me! _________________ Dave

I have the cheap Triton and love it , for the money i'll put it up against any others in the same price range , you will love it , it has very accurate tracking and almost up to speed while running in the boat , by the way it is super easy to use probably the easiest , later ... _________________ I,d rather DIE while i,m living than LIVE while i,m dead
