[quote="Ol Sanch"] There is a direct relationship between the falling purchase power of the dollar and the increasing price of gas. As our monetary policy changes and the money supply is tightened, theoretically, the dollar will strengthen and the price of gas will come down. Although, I don't think it will ever be $.99 again.
[quote]
Ol Sanch is right on from a macroeconomic point. I wish I could give you all a disertation on the economics of the falling dollar and its relation to gas prices, and the exact mechanisms of trade, and an outlook, but I am limited by my licenses to not posting certain things on webpages.
I can say this, the weakening dollar has done tremendous things for increasing the demand for US goods and services abroad, which increase GDP, and at the same time has made our US made goods more competitive at home too, as foreign goods are more expensive here stateside. It also makes shipping jobs overseas less attractive as the labor and capital costs are higher. These are positives for the economy.
Also, GDP was reported as .6% for the 1st Quarter of 08. That extropolates out to 2.4% for the year, which is considered very moderate growth, and extremely far from a recession. 3% is considered good, and 4% and higher is booming in the US.
The funniest thing I have read is from the EU Central Bank which said we were heading for depression because our unemployment rate might top 5% !!!!
Then what the heck is the EU in with an average unemployment rate well over 10%, and approaching 15% in some of their countries!!!
Still doesn't take out the sting of putting gas in the family wagons though. _________________ GOBZA!!!

My neighbor had the best idea. He is going to sell his Z-71, take off his front receiver hitch that he uses for the fishing basket. Then he said he's going to install that receiver on my Z-71 Tahoe and let me take him on the fishing trips to the PINS.
That said, I'm being very selective about where and when I go in the boat. I'll start sharing cost with those willing. Also hose the dust off the yak and/or do more wadeing. May have to sell the boat.
Thinking about a smaller, lighter flats rig that won't use as much fuel. Stan, what size hitch is on your boat trailer. Oh-yea, please keep it full of gas too. D. |

A recession is a significant decline in economic activity, lasting more than a few months, normally visible in GDP, real income, employment, production, and wholesale retail sales.
A decline in GDP for 3 months? Not yet, and I'm not sitting around waiting for the bottom to fall out either. I dont understand why so many people are predicting the economy to fail, almost like they do not see a possible turnaround. Stocking up on rice to the point that Sams has to limit the amount that one family can buy????.
Since when is 0.6% growth good news, but it's not a decline where I went to school. All indicators that factor into the economy show a significant slowdown EXCEPT government spending...go figure. Factor in the governments "economic stimulus" checks and that is just more government spending. Rate cuts keep coming, and I wont tear my check up when I get it in the mail.
Something that I can do to make a difference concerning gas prices is reduce the amount of fuel I buy. It may not effect the economy, but it will help my wallet and reduce consumption. I believe if we keep using the same amount of gas regardless of price, the gas prices will continue to go up. _________________ Grind

I have a 2" hitch to hook up my 16 ft "flat bottom girl" which is pushed by a 40hp tohatsu it will comfortably take 2 guys to where the fish are twice on 6 gals of fuel. cheap , cheap , cheap. On the other hand I'd like to see this thread rewritten after everyone has had 5 beers and 4 shots of good tequlia. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

After 5 beers and 4 shots of tequilla, I'd be falling off my chair. I have the good tequilla covered though - Don Julio Reposada. Since I am home with a bad upper respiratory infection and sore throat, any good recipes for "at home sick" drinks involving tequilla? I have Grand Marnier, Cointreau, some good E&J Reserve Brandy, some great Bacardi 8 and Bacardi Solera. (IMS is now drooling thinking about the rum.... ) _________________ GOBZA!!!

After my last fish fry I came down with the same thing still getting over the chest infection. One problem with all the koolaid you listed.....I didn't see any Captain Morgan's Private Stock listed, so just drink shots of the repasado , DR. Ims recommends shots..... a shot of this or a shot of that. While your sick think of the fuel you'll save while lying there in bed. Trying to stick to the thread. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

One of the major reasons for the high cost is the high demand. Think about it. When I first moved to CC back in about '68 my friend had a 12' wooden boat with a 3 horse Evenrude on it. If you remember those tiny outboards, the gas tank was built into the motor. As I remember it held less than a gallon. We would launch at the boat hole and fish all day on one tank of gas. How many of us have boats now that burn up that much gas in 10 or 15 minutes? _________________ Big Ed

I hate to think we would be willing to sacrifice more of our soldiers in Iraq in the mistaken belief that staying in Iraq will keep gas prices from going higher. Hasn't happened yet; in fact, prices started going up when George started the Iraq War.
|
If you watch the news, you will see that there is still a war going on over there. Trust me I know. It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to start reconstruction at this point.
Who said we are thinking about keeping troops over there in the belief that it will keep the gas prices from going higher? That is just insane. I never understood why people think we are in Iraq for the oil. Here is where we get most of our oil..
For 2007, our Top 10 importers of crude oil into the U.S. in million barrels were:
1. Canada 680.533 million barrels
2. Saudi Arabia 530.245
3. Mexico 514.48
4. Venezuela 419.841
5. Nigeria 394.856
6. Angola 181.215
7. Iraq 177.009
8. Algeria 161.755
9. Ecuador 72.138
10. Kuwait 64.306
So much for the Iraq theory. WE SHOULD INVADE CANADA!!!!!!!
BTW, President Bush didn't start the war in Iraq. Hope this information has helped. _________________

When gas hits $4 a gallon, I will do the same as I do now....and that is to not drive anywhere I don't absolutely have to. I save in-town chores for days I have to work. Luckily, my boat doesn't drink much, so I will still continue to fish in it. I'm like Titeline, I will cut back somehwere else, but not fishing. _________________ Save the seagrass......Shoot some ducks |

I'm on that Busch boat. Sorry Bud Lite, but you are my cut. I'm just hoping that this cut will help with the gas for the Nitro 750 with the 90 I'm getting ready to order will help on the feul cost problem. That and I need some new fishing buddies to help split. _________________ "I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I mean." |

I have it. Just came to me out of the blue.
RACING TROLLING MOTORS. We could be like NASCAR. Put racing numbers on our boats and yaks and go fer it.
Saves gas and is cleaner. So simple, IMS why din't you think of that? |
