HE DID NOT SAY, OR AT LEAST I DONT REMEMBER BUT I TRULY BELIEVE HE WILL BE USING 10--TO 12# AS I HAVE BUILT HIM A COUPLE OTHER RODS AND THAT IS HIS CHOICE OF LINE WEIGHTS.
IT'S KINDA STRANGE I PUT A 300 SPIN REEL ON IT JUST TO SEE HOW IT FEELS AND IT HAS A NICE BALANCE AND IT SEEMS TO BE FAILRLY WELL BALANCED, COULD YOU JUST SEE TOSSING A JIG WITH 10# LINE ON THAT DUDE, WONDER WHAT KINDA DISTANCE YOU WOULD GET, IT'S GOING TO BE A FUN BUILD, I AM GOING TO GO WITH NORMAL SPIN GUIDES ON THE LOWER END BUT THEN I WILL TIGHTEN UP ON THE UPPER TIP SECTION POSSIBLEY MIGHT LOOK AT SOME FLY GUIDES CLOSE TO THE LAST FEW FEET JUST GOING TO PLAY A BIT WITH THIS ONE MIGHT GET A CHANCE TO DO THIS AGAIN.

I built myself a combination fly/spinning rod on a 9-ft 8wt several years ago. Fly reel seat at the base and a modified grip that can accept a spinning reel (Tennessee style). Used spinning guides on the lower end and fly guides out front. I find that on most days, especially on the Texas coast where the wind never seems to lay, I don't like fishing the rod as a spinning setup. There is just too much line in the air to work jigs, etc...

a 9' fast action fly rod blank makes a killer spinning rod. I have one with a US Reels Supercast on it. It throws weightless soft plastics a mile with 20# PowerPro. When the reds get really finicky in the middle of summer it is a really sweet deal.
