Im a huge of Pflueger spinning combos, theyve always treated me better than good! If youre trying to keep to that $40 range try academy. There's plenty to choose from. Lots of different kinds of Shakespheres and other middle of the road choices. _________________ Work hard to play harder!!!

Well that depends on what you want to spend on a reel. I use Shimano Stradics for myself, and for my guest i outfit them with Shimano Symetre. They hold up. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| Penn 4400 or 4500 have been great, a little more than 40 bones but still using the first 4400 I bought 8 years ago. |

| the sonora is a decent reel.. One of my buddy has a few of them. IIRC they are made by shimano. dont expect it to last seaons but it will get you through a few.. |

| A few years ago, GoingCoastal recommended the Okuma Epixor to me (EF 30). I think they are about $50. I've bought several of them and been pretty happy with 'em. I think they hold up better than similarly priced Shimano's |

I'll second that. Shimano is the way to go. _________________ GOBZA!!!

I dont have any problems using baitcasters, just cast with the wind not against it.
Thought that was normal rule. _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!- |

| What IMS and Bluffer said. I use the curados most of the time but if I'm in the Yak or wading where I might be casting into the wind alot I use the Symetre. D. |

I am also a fan of the Pflueger spinning reels, I had a presidential series combo and it lasted longer than my comparably priced shimano combo. Don't get me wrong shimano is great stuff but so is Pflueger. For the money spent I would fish with it and decide if you like it, it's going to last if you take care of it. _________________ still chasing my 30" trout |

Shimano all the way, used to use Penns but the drag systems can't compre to Shimanos in terms of smootheness. I use my Curados most of the time but spinning reels have a place, would never sightcast to Reds with anything but. _________________ Later,

I am a Penn's fan myself, but I also have some little ones that are not ready for the Penn's, or is it dad?
They probably have them elsewhere, but I do know that Cos Bait Stand has them. Walk-in and they are in the back left corner for $20.00. They are a Daiwa reel with some rod combo. On the reel it will say Daiwa and have the word shock. Reel is silver or grayish in color while pole is black.
That is right $20.00. Story behind them, I have personally seen and/or used them in one of the following situations covering approximately 2 years going on 3:
1. Drag tightened all the way for slinging sheepies over pier, catching jack fish, king fish, etc.
2. Seldom to never rinsed
3. Catching trout and reds and slinging trout over pier.
4. Wade fishing, dunkings, etc.
5. Used by children 10 years and younger, perhaps greatest test.
Result: Rods and reels still being used as bought with ease of casting. I am talking not even rinsing. I generally epoxy the two piece rod.
Some of the best $20.00 ever spent. |
