While we go round 3 of 4 of major upwelling off S. Texas this summer, the entire length of the LA coast looks like it could be one big pot of Courtbuillion!! Somebody get some rice cooking.

right? I'm thinking that this upwelling is lasting a little bit longer than normal..usually by mid July it's petering out...any theories?

The persistent High Pressure System parked over TX & AZ for the past 2 months, allowing for due south winds time after time, which helps reinforce these events. The longshore current reversal in May/June is a given, but lingering into August (where the visibility at the jetties ought to be 15-20 feet some days ), I'm blaming the High Pressure cell. |

gotcha....I suppose there is no shortage of nepheloid material down in the nepheloid layer that is continuing to train up against our beaches in association with the cold water upwelling....
we got both kinds, cold AND dirty...

| The latest I saw was that the water temperature in the Gulf was 93°. Can't imagine what it would be like if we didn't have a cold water upwelling |

| I dont fully understand what a cold water upwelling is… I always assumed it was the deep, cold, dirty water that gets pushed from the deep due to constant S wind. This however seems different as the surf beach temps have not dropped. |

pretty close, it's pulled up from the deep...but I think you get it....you can dig deeper here https://www.researchgate.net/publication/225663441_Seasonal_upwelling_on_the_Western_and_Southern_Shelves_of_the_Gulf_of_Mexico
and take a look at the C.S.'s graph above; it's not that the temps have dropped, it's that they haven't come up yet in relation to the rest of the gulf, or our normal temperature...

I don't have any reports, but it doesn't look like it....although I have to imagine there's fish down there anyway....you might have to change your tactics up a bit...

It was cold, minty green and sharky and the tax men were aggressively collecting dues, but the fishing was on fire a mile or two off the beach. |

Any more developments? I was hoping this storm flushed out the cold stuff.
We'll be down the 5th for the "great inflatable kayak experiment" and would like to try it beyond the breakers a bit. |

| I went South on PINS Saturday and the water was much warmer. Currents are pushing pretty well from the North due to the storm and the cold water was gone. |
