Sinker,

There are several good piers on the Gulf Coast.

There is Horace Caldwell which picks up from March and has good fishing through November.

There is the 91st or Galveston fishing pier which is 400 yards long and is the best redfish pier in Texas.

The Pensacola and Navarre piers in the Florida Panhandle are some of the best piers in the Country.

I started pier fishing in the late 50's at BHP rubbing shoulders with the likes of Wayne McBee, Oneal Blackard, Billy Sandifer, Rudy Mayorga (Mallorga?).... the list is long. Trusting parents used to drop a friend and I off Friday evening and then come get us on Sunday afternoon.

I fished for trout under the lights at night unless the tarpon were happening. This happened for about 3-4 years until Bob Hall got real crowded. We migrated to Horace Caldwell an met new friends. Chris Page, Bill Weekly ...

We had many adventures on Caldwell that made memories forever.

Today I still have friends that fish the lights for big specks by cast netting Pogies and freelining them just beyond the edge of the lights. Very successfully I might add.

Though I'm not the pier rat I once was I still made about 8-10 trips to Bob Hall each year. But one thing is for sure .... if they make a two level tourist attraction out of Bob Hall I'll go back to Horace Caldwell for my few visits annually.
