I was just told by Cabelas in Kyle that I couldn't buy a license unless I gave them my e-mail address because Texas Fish and Game required it by a new state law. Is this true? Thanks

I've found it a whole lot easier to buy fishing license online.
Certainly the state likes the database, and TPWD occasionally sends out informative e-mails.

However, I doubt if you are required to give them your e-mail address in order to buy a license from a retailer.
here, they state they need email address and phone number, but if you can't provide e-mail, the retail clerk can write an exception.

I buy a Florida fishing license every year, and it's entirely online out there...having an email makes it a lot easier in the authentication process in their system, plus they are paperless....you get basically a QR code that can be scanned, and that's your "license"...I pay extra to get a card version...

that being said, give them an email that you don't use that often...what's the big deal?

The point I am trying to make is that if I had not given them my e-mail I would not have received my license based on what he said was state law. Its not needed! I like my privacy very much.

I agree with Becky... Get a burner email and use it. Takes all of 2 minutes, and there are hundreds of options for a burner.
You're giving up your SSN number at the same time. The email is the least of my concerns, when it comes to privacy. Exclamation

in Florida? yes, they can still do it the old fashioned way and go to KMart or Publix, but no one does because it takes 25 minutes, when you can do it on your phone in less than 5...you don't even need a license if you're fishing from the shore....they only care about fishing from a boat over there...

C.S., arent you supposed to be heading to a meeting soon? they gonna shut down AJ completely over here this side of the Mississippi so they can have all of our AJ over there too?

Nobody travels anymore. It's all Webinars, and MAAAAANNNNNNNNN I can't stand those.

But for the species in question, don't look for a shutdown on a Regional basis (it's a single Gulf Stock model), but be prepared for the dreaded 'F(Rebuild)' as the basis for the next few years'es.......... 2027 was thrown out as a potential horizon, but I still think it's 'optimistic', given the current removal rates and recruitment potential.

The Assessment came out with WAY Optimistic projections, given this species history in the last decades++, and the meeting centered on "If the last Overfishing/Overfished' determination didn't lead to any meaningful changes, why should this latest one be any different? A more ratcheted down Rebuild Plan is on the horizon. Cool (And before anybody throws stones, it's the Rec side that is consistently over the limit - some years WAY OVER !!!!).

yeah, I saw that coming sitting on my last SEDAR panel...at least now I know that it takes them 4 years to wrangle the process into actual changes....but at least they don't hide their intentions on which fish species are next...

are the recs going way over data coming from the Beaufort headboat study?

Nah.... The headboat landings sector for this particular species is pretty much the lowest amount overall.

Will get the latest and greatest numbers for a projection tomorrow morning, with the 2019 split season 'upset' getting tossed for the 3-year average to move forward.

The Great Red Snapper Count presentation was...... EYE OPENING, and now there is one for AJ from NC to TX to follow. How we fold these new abundance numbers into an assessment?!?!?!?! I'm calling up Ms. Cleo... Shocked

I assumed nothing less...they can take a poll of a million people who say the sky is blue, and the MRIP folks will report it as green...

that really puts sticker burrs in my panties...

EDIT: ok, I found it...they went from telephone back to snail mail here in the 21st century...makes a ton of sense Rolling Eyes

I recently got my first survey from FL in the mail (actually, I got two of them, same thing, several days apart)...it's actually a pretty detailed survey, but I can't see how that's going to improve the data...

for one, the very first question is, "did you fish on a private boat that launched from Florida?" if you didn't, then the survey is over...

so, they don't care if you fished at the beach, waded in, kayaked, fished from a bridge, from a pier, private dock, charter boat, paddle board, sailboat, houseboat, or whatever else....they ONLY care if you fished from a private motor boat...

seems to me they're missing a bit of information, but what do I know? I failed stats
