Finally able to stick one of these brutes after many losses to structure. This one came in at 57" with an official weight at 54.27lbs. Again, and of course I had the opportunity to film it. Such an amazing fight, and much respect for these fish. Fish was harvested over a huge family meal and let me tell you... delicious! Figured I'd post the story here, hope you all enjoy it.

Nice catch!!! Remember back in early 80's we used to chase em down with buck jigs 4lb 6lb mono with shock leader. We were after light line records back then. Crap i still use 8lb 10lb on spinning reels. Love the fight of a fish. What its all about play em and win. We used to use homemade top water poppers made out of wooden dowel and broom stick stock. Yep was fun as heck. Miss the old days. Great catch keep em goin guys. And yes im a member of a sailfish off the beach launch club bout halfway between bob hall n stand pipes a little south got it on a dolphin colored smoker trollin in a flatbottom.get em guys _________________ Long time avid fisherman rod builder.
Congratulations! Great story, and great video production. A rod, gaff, and bat are all worthy sacrifices for a fish and a story of a lifetime.
You should have a taxidermist made a model of the fish, and mount the rod and bat on the wall next to it! _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed...
