Well, it was pretty slow for us. Tried a spot early with top waters and it was blow up after blow up after blow up for hours. The water was about 2 to 3 feet deep with scattered sand pockets and a mixture of high and deep spots. Water visibility was decent. The only problem was no hook ups. Its hard to leave when you get such a visual of 25 inch redfish launching out of the water on your top water. We ended up with 1 trout for our efforts, which is really sad considering how many fish were trying to hit the top water. We also tried plastics in this area with absolutely zero success. We finally made a move to deeper water in the 4ft to 5 ft range and targeted a drop off. Slow there too. I did get one good fish to mention. One good flattie to make the day better. Once I knew I had a flounder I tried the techniques people suggested last report. I guess they worked or I got lucky. Either way I'll take it.

Also got to take my son on his first boat ride the evening before. Just thought I'd share this too!

Hickroots, go to a clear top water alwys works when they blow up n miss alot. Its my go to on occasions like this. Sometimes too, Redfish wang a strait retrieve with top water no dog walking. Just a suggestion.

I'm open to try it because all those misses get really frustrating. I've never thought of trying a clear. We did get hit on a few straight retrieves, not because we were working it like that intentionally but because grass would foul our hooks and we just worked them in anyways. Thanks for the tips!

Great Info on both suggestions. As reds run on it just a straight fast reel away from them will get them going enough to commit. I also like downsizing to a small skitterwalk to imitate more of a shrimp style bait. Great report.

I would tie a trailer behind the top water. 1/16oz jig with a soft plastic. Tie it to front of the top water so it doesn't take away the action.

Interesting suggestions. I've seen the jig head under a topwater in a video and thought it was hokey like catching a red on a carrot or something. Guess I was wrong haha. How does that not get tangled on a cast?

I fish that way a lot. just tangle sometimes but not too often. It's a lot like fishing fresh water with a nymph under a stimulator. I've actually had double hookups that way

If your fishin with trebles take em off go to singles. Also get a few with props on the back. Yep freshwater lures gives it an extra appearance of something in the chase. I carry few and they do produce. Try what ya like or think all that can happen is back to drawing board. What do i know i paint spoons eyes n all. Worked for over 40yrs now. You would be surprised. Makes you wonder why the old mansfield maulers had a hook on cork !!
