How far out do you yak your baits out? Do you change the distance at all based on whether it is night or daytime?

Yes. Deeper drops for day and shorter for night sometimes makes a big diff in the heat of the summer.

Drops are anywhere from second gut to 600+ yards

Just make sure to have enough line left on your reel for a fight. Don't worry about what reels or line everyone says to get. Just get out there and have fun.

I think I have the gear part of the equation covered ok. How close do the large sharks come in? What makes you decide on far of a drop you are targeting?
