Did a quick drift near the house and the topwater bite was dead, so I switched to Vudu Shrimp on the ultralight.
First cast I caught a trout, and then had steady action for a while.
Then I hooked something that peeled about 100 ft of line off on its first run.
It stayed down and fought like a red, so I was in for a shock when this 27 inch trout finally came to the surface.
A quick pic and back in the water.
Caught several 15-16 inch trout and a bunch of redfish about the same size.
Kept one 18 inch trout for lunch.
Wind picked up and muddied the water, ladyfish moved in, and it started raining. I took the hint. Besides, I had chores to do.

Wow, that is quite a discussion.
I fished some of the Omni Rods by Copely Smoak on Lake Murray, SC back in 2004. Built on a 9 ft fly rod blank and using the BPS micro spin reels, they were an absolute blast catching bluegills up to about 2 lbs, plus the occasional crappie, bass, perch, or pickerel.
This 7-1/2 is great, but I still wonder if I might be missing something not having one of the 9 footers.

I picked up the Japanese XUL right about the time Joe Robinson came out with his book - they're a perfect dry-fly rod taper, the short, super-soft tip protecting the lightest line, long fast mid for casting, and the stiff butt gives you fish-turning power, so you're also not abusing the reel.
The first two were for kidfish ritual with my daughters at Fulton Beach pier or Flour Bluff piers, dinner at Snoopy's or Cap'n Bennys, and catch 40 nursery trout /hour before ice cream.
Like you, pushed them to bigger and bigger fish.
The adult ritual is Arroyo docks for the past 3 years, where they make all the difference in taking schoolie specs. In Jan, the guides with their fares across the Arroyo on Dos Rios docks were watching us catch fish.
They're also Perfect any time you have to imitate glass minnows.
I fished my new 8'er at Little Cut 3 or 4 weeks ago, and could cast the 3/16th-oz plug from the center shoal to either cut bank.

| Very nice trout. There must be something going on with these bigger fish, I know many people who've caught some big ones coming off the last full moon. I caught my biggest one yesterday. |
