I personally prefer the south jetty, I like to fish the surf side. Free-lining mullet close to the rocks has always worked for me. Also you might want to go to the tip of the jetties, and chunk some lures. There are commonly tarpon, kings and spanish mackerel this time of year. You will have to check out how bad the seawead is as I have not been there in a while.

OK I'm confused. What is SPJ? And by the way, when facing the Gulf of Mexico from the shore in Texas, North is always to the left and South is always to the right.

I cruised the south jetty on Tuesday just to see if there was any action. It was after noon, so I didn't expect too much. One guy had caught a couple of trout on bait he had cast-net. Looked like shad of some sort. There wasn't a single person on the north jetty. The waves were a little rougher on that side. Two guys at the end had no luck . I would definitely take a cast-net and use what they are feeding on. Live shrimp would work. Have a spoon or two handy in case you see some surface action(smacks or whatever). Good Luck!! Is it legal to cast-net off the jetties?? Just curious..

I was there last evening around 7:30 Pm, and there were only two people fishing on the jetty. I watch them for about ten to fifteen minutes and did not see a fish caught.
But it will be full of people if the surf condition are ok.

Grass has been a problem along the coast lately as well, making it annoying and difficult to fish.

SPJ = south packery jetty. And like the other poster said for those who may be directionally challenged, when standing on the south Texas coast and looking out to sea, south [or close to it] is on your right side!

Also the Sun rises in the east & sets in the west. Idea and the wind blows from the south east.

Yeah, but even in Corpus where the weather can sometimes get monotonous, the wind doesn't ALWAYS blow from the SE, especially in the winter. It has been my observation that when the wind isn't coming from the normal SE - SSE direction, the fishing suffers, even when it's still close to that as in a SW wind. What do y'all think?
