| pretty cool - I caught a 4'er when I was a kid, tossing a Johnson's Sprite from the dock while waiting to board the Wharf Cat. |

| I recently purchased "Fishes of the Texas Laguna Madre" from this site and it appears the "ribbon fish" is an eel? Any marine biologist handy? |

Nope. Much more related to albacores, bonitos, mackerels, and tunas, being in the Suborder Scombrids. The absent pelvic and caudal fins give them an 'eel-like' appearance, but that's as close as they get to eels.

If my wife was still alive we would be heading down to the coast to catch some. She loved eating ribbon fish. She would cut it into sections and fry it in a pan with a little oil. If you are careful you can peel the meat right off the bone after cooking. Tried some and it is not bad. _________________ Retired 29 March 2019 |

I highly doubt it. They're very bloody and bony. Great Kingfish bait. I think even reds might bite them as cut bait. Wouldn't eat one though. They look about 1/2 step off of eel to me. _________________ All things will pass. Have a Blessed day. |

Thanks becky! I see them for sale at the Asian store in Arlington. This big one looks like it has a lot of meat on it.
Just wondering what other fish it tastes like. _________________
