I wasn't that excited about the cool winds blowing with my damaged shoulder, but went ahead and ventured out Saturday morning to see if the reds were around. Paddling was slow and my casts are pretty limited in distance. To my surprise, the tides were down almost 18 inches, matching Summer low tide marks. This completely changed the look of my favorite flat, and although scooting around in the kayak made being stealthy difficult, I managed a limit of fish before the sun was visible, and overall 13 solid reds came to the kayak. Four of them were overslot and all were sight casted. This post-front thing is better than I expected!

Great trip Prof! I've had great post front trips in the bay, but I seem to recall the wind was out of the Northeast most of the time, but the wind was out of the Northwest for you, am I correct?

NW wind is the one that drains the bays.
This was a NNW front in April and the oyster reefs were dams, holding back a foot of water - even though the harmonic tide was coming in, the wind current going out of the bays exceeded it 100 times.

The wind current in the channels was ferocious.

Yes, it was Northwest. My birthday is later this week, so I'll burn a day tomorrow to see how the returning Southeast wind changes things 😬

I was out today and what was weird is that I was actually drifting into the wind. Tides were going out faster than the winds were coming in so I was going backwards.

And I have always thought any time the wind is out of the West was a good time to stay home, so bad for me. Rolling Eyes

You guys go get 'em! I see my doc on Friday about how to proceed with my shoulder. Be it surgery or rehab I'm ready to get moving, so I'll be living through reports from the sidelines on this next one.

Well, I hope the decision is not surgery for your sake, and ours! If it's surgery we will miss your posts for much more than a front or two. Crying or Very sad

Thanks Bayfly, but the rotator cuff (like a meniscus in the knee) is one of those parts of the body that will never heal on its own. If the injury is large enough to warrant surgery, I'm ready to get it over with so I can start healing and getting my motion back. In preparation of the down-time, I am buying a nice fly vise and materials. I should be able to tie Clousers and some weedless fly ideas even with a limited arm, so I might still be posting a few things.

Good luck,, even if you have to have surgery, it might be better in the long run. Four months for me now after a total shoulder replacement and I spent 4 hrs in the kayak yesterday. just don't try to over do it.
