Saturday was the day. Clear water, a bit breezy, but breakers set up nicely. Fished right around the north side of the state park boundary. Two trout on topwaters and a ray that darn near pulled me into the gulf. Sunday through Wednesday, the surf was angry. Nothing but big whiting in the first gut. Couldn't get past the second bar from North Mustang all the way to the 10 at PINS the last four days of the trip with the wind howling and the surf looking like a boat motor making potato soup. Did see the turtle release, which is always fun--I get a kick out of the seagull patrollers running around to protect the little guys.

Always good to get a rod wet. And you have to take the good with the bad-- the wind kept things cool if you had the right shade, and the tar was really only an issue Saturday. Fun was had by all and ended it with a great trip to the Crazy Cajun!

On a side note, quick question--did Paul's in Port A shut down?

Renewed my annual pass and fished SFPJ this morning on a falling tide. Waves down and dropping, water clarity looks good and all will improve for the next few days. Consistent and aggressive bite from dink trout and tons of skipjack on Tsunami swim bait and silver spoon. BTW, saw a small tarpon cruising on the surf side of the south jetty. Threw a spoon at it but no bite
Left 'em biting to search beach from SBH to North sticks. Very few mullet seen and very few birds working. Bait getting busted out of range on 4th & 5th bar areas. Bino search didn't reveal fish type doing the busting. Never wet a line during the trip.
Will go back tomorrow morning to SFPJ for more catching action -too much fun!

I miss my buddy Stan.

Thanks for the report! Yes IMS is certainly missed. That man could throw a fish fry! We all miss him.

Started fishing at 0845 at MIST and found 0 (zero) trout and skipjacks at MIST and same result later past the Bowl S of BH (not even a whiting!). Home by noon but still a nice day at the beach with good looking water and driving.
Strongly considering fishing the surf late in the afternoon to sunset. Not used to catching nothing and need to shake the skunk. Nice Backyard catches Zia!

I was out at North Packery last night. I had my rod but there was absolutely no mullet or bait in close. There were dusky anchovies beyond the fourth bar getting blown up by ladyfish and spanish mackerel from the looks of it.
