A question for you fisher folks and DIY'ers.
After I go fishing, and end up with a bunch of sand in my vehicle's carpet, I need to find a good tool for getting it out. I have been to a lot of beaches around the world, and without question, PINS has the toughest sand to clean out of my car. I want to buy a good wet/dry vac for the job. In your experience, any recommendations for a vacuum cleaner for the job that really sucks? We're talking sand here. |

I would not invest your time or money in a vacuum cleaner at all.
WeatherTech floor mats. Worth every penny because they do everything they're advertised to do. Take em out, dump sand, replace. Or if you're really concerned, spray them off at the car wash or with the hose (however you get sand off the exterior & undercarriage). _________________ All things will pass. Have a Blessed day. |

Good advice! I put them in all my vehicles |

I'll third the vote for the Weathertech mats. The only problem I've had with them is if they get soiled, which they will, I've had trouble getting the discoloration out of them. This is not to say they will not come clean, but they get stained. I've also not tried various stronger soaps then my car wash soap. If anyone has found a best soap for them, please don't hesitate to post it.
I thought I should add, my mats are light grey, so maybe a darker color would not stain, or at least show a stain?

| we had the same problem for years, especially with the kids, scored a good deal a suburban which fortunately is vinyl all around, makes getting out the sand much easier, but the floor mats mentioned above are also great. |

May sound crazy and a little more work, but use whatever vac you want, but also take an air hose and work through the floorboard with vac right next to it.
You might be surprised. |

Combination of all of the above. I have Weathertech floor mats, I pull those out and give the truck the once over with the air compressor to loosen up any sand that is in the carpet and then I shop vac.
After all that there is probably still some sand that I will find a few days later |

| i will second, actually 6th or 7th the Weathertech mats - and i use a little wisk broom and brush up where my foot spreads the sand - on the gas and brake pedals. Something i think you need to budget into being a pins person - is having your vehicle detailed a couple times a year. 150 to 175 out here at VIP car wash in annaville - and it will look better than the day you bought it. |

Just don't buy carpet floorboards. All my trucks have vinyl floorboards. _________________ Shane |

The guy at ziebart said, 'you fish down the national seashore ?' 'Yep' He said, 'here's what you need - weather tech, front and back' . I went there to get the steps to help my wife and mom get in the truck easier, got that, plus I got the mats, undercoating, and alarm system. Nick Meyers tells me he doesnt trust their undercoating - i am probably going to do the linseed oil treatment on top of the undercoating. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

| Thanks for the advice for everyone that responded. I think I looked into the Weather Tech mats a few years ago, but did not want to spend that much. I think I will go with them now, at least on the drivers side. |

I looked into them too. Too tight for my budget now, maybe after retirement (yea right). What I have done is I have access to some rubber squares about 1/8" thick 28" sq or so. I put them down in the back and on my wifes side.
My side has a generic floor mat I picked up from O'riely's and it all works good. I get a little on the outside of mine next to the door but the one small spot is easy to clean up.
The others I just take out and shake off.
WHAT I WANT is something that keeps the sand out of E V E R Y T H I N G else. You know....when you ride with the window down... bad word bad word
My wife bought one of those fuzzy dusters that seems to work pretty good so far. _________________ Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might. (Fishing is one of those things ) |

Horse hair brush from Home depot. Will take the sand out of anything and off of anything. Add some talc powder to it and its better than a shower getting sand off of you on the beach. _________________ Fish ON! |
