It has been almost a year and a half since Harvey and it is still not open for beach camping. They keep pushing back the overnight camping date. Does anyone know what the hold up for beach camping is? I drove through the park and know they are adding a large bathroom/shower facility for the RV campers area. Seems like they could still allow primitive beach camping. Hope they open it back up for overnight camping soon.

From MISP facebook 2/26:

>>Camping update: We appreciate everyone's patience, we understand it has been a long time and everyone is excited to get back to their park. Unfortunately, it will likely be after spring break before camping is available again. Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience.<<

I also tried to call MISP direct but went to a voicemail.

I called Austin 800# and held for 10+ minutes before giving up.

The way its been going, after spring break they will say July 4th, then Labor Day, then October. Cab only hope for the best.

PINS is a better camp experience but I miss the convenience of MISP.

#!@!#*!$!! government bureacracy BS. I can only imagine the bidding and approval process and the contractor trying to get paid after being awarded with the job.

Easy now.
There was so much rain when they started repairs that they had to start over.
My yard and driveway have not been dry once since Mid August.
None of my projects are getting done, either.
Took forever for Yarbrough to get any work done, too.
They do not need to shut down the park at sunset, though. That seems excessive.

from yesterday MISP facebook:

>>We will be closing the jetty road today for some road maintenance. The south beach access road is open for day use. We are using the excess sand to create an ADA accessible walkway from the parking lot to the day use beach which should prevent that parking lot from tidal flooding. Once the sand is built up we will install a mobi mat to improve wheelchair access. ***the latest report for camping and bathhouse completion is May. We are just as eager to return to normal operation as you are. Please be patient with us, we're at the mercy of the contractors.<<

Mercy of the contractors or "rain"? You heard it from the horse's mouth. Easy, shmeasy.

But 'Johnny Law' and his White State Police Truck has no problems cruising down the re-claimed Newport Pass section and harassing folks who let their dogs run.

Johnny Law : Why are your dogs loose? You are in the State Park!!
Innocent Beachgoer : Cause there ain't nobody out here.........
Johnny Law : So you know they should be leashed and you choose to let them run?
Innocent Beachgoer : What part of 'Nobody Here' at 7:30 am are you struggling with?
Johnny Law : 'Sits in State Police Truck' watching vigilantly until said dogs are rounded up (and yea, it was a LONG walk to catch them)......
Innocent Beachgoer : [insert smirk here].

Nah..... Just a conversation I happened to overhear. Cool

But literally, I have shirts in my closet older than Johnny Law in his White State Police Truck...... First real job, sucky, cloudy, damp day.... I get it, you're bored. (It was ALMOST a drop of 'DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM', but I held my tongue).

Sorry for continually bringing this up but this post was in yesterday's MISP facebook:

>>I called the main State Park Office yesterday, March 25th, and was told it now looks like a mid summer opening due to contractor delays:<<

This curmudgeon is getting antsier and antsier. Going down PINS is worth the extra hour but too remote for my olde age to go it alone. Looks like next date will be Labor Day.............
