You got that right zia. With braid I think I can feel every headshake from a fish once hooked. |

As for the braid digging into the rest of the line, whe you load up the reel do it under tension so the line packs down solidly.
|
Kind of an aside - when I load any reel, I used the telephone book approach.
(I don't even know if this works with braid.)
Route your line through the middle of the phone book. The friction puts the right tension on the line you're winding. Since the friction is dependent on the diameter of the line, the phone book tension is kind of self-adjusting to the line test.
But one thing's for sure, you don't want to pinch dyneema braid with your fingers when you're loading your reel. |

| I haven't heard about using the phone book. Sounds interesting. I usually put on the glove and squeeze the line as it's running through my fingers. Phone book sounds easier |

The danged apostrophe got me again. Try two
Not mentioned yet, but Ive found that braid in the sand will degrade fairly quickly. Sand gets into the weave and starts fraying it out. This is remedied by putting a long enough flouro leader (about 3 feet) with a wind on knot like the FG knot. Works well for me. _________________

That is why I put 150 yd top shot of mono on my long rods and shark rods to keep it off of the sand as much as possible. It also provides a good shock buffer. |

This is true... sometimes I feel farts too
I like Seaguar Smackdown the best but it's super thin, get the 40lb. Fins is good, and so is the old Suffix performance. If you use a braid that is too supple it will give you a lot of wind knots. A lot of the 'smooth' lines are too supple. |

If you don't have a phone book, it works equally well with the Sears Wish Book, the Complete Encyclopedia of Motorcars, or the 1939 Army Navy CSL catalog

While surf fishing I use 15# Spider wire(moss green) on my 6.5' rods and 40# Spider wire on my larger set up in case the big one hits.
Do you'all think There's any concern over the fish seeing my line and getting spooked? |
