Hey Rich,
You could charge it turn it on (if its able) and make them call it...
OR
Most phones carry owner info so that they can also tell you their name.
BUT MOST of ALL thanks for being honest and trying to return it.
Refreshing in this day and age of greed and narcissism. _________________ Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might. (Fishing is one of those things ) |

| Yes that is my plans. I was coming back from Launch so just wanted to try and reach out to owner and put his mind at ease that phone will find it's way back to him. Will do more searching for him once i get caught up with things later. Hoping owner reaches out to me first. |

Call the last 10 people on his call log. One is bound to know the owner. _________________ Gary J

| Good idea. Will check with them. Cell phone is locked. Verizon says nothing can be done with it locked. I called the emergency call but police says it just shows without number of phone(no caller ID). Maybe they will call phone or has locator activated. |

There are a few back doors that people have found to unlock phones. Check youtube. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

| Drove to national seashore park entrance and asked if anyone reported lost phone. They said yes at entrance and I needed to hand it over as it is government property. Didn't have with me so one "ranger" told the other to get my licenses plate number. I got visitor center number from them. Visitor center said no reports has reached to them. They would not give me any contact number if they did have as they do not serve as middle person. Dilemma! Give to government agency which has shown me how it deals with problems when given control of. (look at launch at Bird Island ramp) or continue to search. So far I have posted here, gone to verizon as cell phone suggest this is their carrier, called emergency call to be told by police that caller ID not done, and drove to National seashore. Will search internet lost and found and possibly back door cracking as suggested. Anybody have another ideas? I am feeling that this is a full time job but if it gets to owner it will be time well spent. As long as it doesn't interfere with my fishing I guess all is good. Or should I give it to Park ASAP? |

Rich, lost cell phones was a common occurrence at the Aquarium. When we had a locked cell phone and if we new the carrier, as you do here, we would take off the battery to get to the serial number of the phone. We would call the carrier with this info and they would contact their customer. They would give the customer my contact info so they could contact us with instructions on how to return the phone. Now the problem is, we never tried this with the newer phones like iphones because you need a special tool to get the battery off, but if we could get this battery off, we had good success rate of returning lost phones.
People really appreciated us going the extra mile to return their phones.
Good luck |
