Does anyone know someone in the biology world that has an idea where this nasty sea snot is coming from ? And have any idea how long it will be around ? _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

upwelling event that we're experiencing, and it will train out of the system when the longshore currents finally change direction and the upwelling stops...

| I dont recall encountering the stuff last year. I was reading about that stuff and it brought some east coast commercial fisheries to a grinding halt years ago. |

yes, and it's massive, starts in mexico just north of Tampico and comes all the way up the coast to about cedar bayou, and it's out almost 20 miles...
yes, it is slowly training out of the system, but looks like it will be around for another couple of weeks unless something changes...
happens every year....I was going through files, and it's right on time, although it's a little bigger this year...

I have never seen this stuff in my life and fished the surf from Galveston when I was a kid to PINS on being a so-called adult. Never have seen this before - ever. And I went through my files too - nothing there. And I fished on BHP last night - it was there in the shallows - out close to the T - nothing - no sign of it at all. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |

If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times, don't be drinking your protoplasm on the beach. Save that stuff for home. |

Ok ok, got out to bhp around 630 - had some decent bait, cut whiting, etc. but did not get a run/bite. My fishing bud caught a lot of small whiting though.
Tonight ran down pins to 18 or so - water looked great - no snot weed. We got some live mullet - put that out on several rigs, got a couple of takers but didnt hook anything. Caught skipjacks on spoon, very late in the evening - too late to put them out , ran into a family around 3 or 4 - the folks I got the mullet from, the guy's wife had caught a couple of rat reds and they were pretty sure they saw some jacks in close.
So two trips to the island, one pins and one bhp, didnt bring any thing home, but the water is looking good, there were birds working but probably 3-400 yards out. Glenn, of castaway, found them in close and caught - he said a bit of everything but jacks, and knowing Glenn, thats probably what he was after. _________________ Don - permanent prescription of salt water therapy. |
