I remembered an effort to ban it here. On Tybee Island beaches on Georgia it's prohibited. Oh and so are dogs.

You are fishing for BIG fish of any kind and just happen to catch a shark, as long as you released him what could they do if it was not your intent to catch a shark?

City beaches and piers only. And, I have to wonder if the city even has the authority to do that. Regulation of fish and game in Texas is the responsibility of the State of Texas, not the City of Corpus Christi. Are the game wardens going to enforce city ordinances? Are city cops going to police piers for the type of fish being caught? I sure hope so, since after cleaning up all the crime, they just don't have any work to do otherwise. How about shutting down the meth smoking in North Beach and leave the fishermen the hell alone? How about that?

Really, this must just be placating some folks who want to save the sharks, or maybe the city thinks a shark bite on a pier is their fault if they don't have a law on the books that is supposed to stop that kind of thing. But if a city cop asks "are you fishing for sharks?" Couldn't you just tell im/her that your fishing for Jacks, and that ends the encounter?
