On Friday Mary and I drove up to the four corners area of New Mexico to spend the weekend with my son, his wife and two six-year-old twin grandsons. First day there we went to the Bisti Badlands Wilderness Area. It was 60 square miles of rock formations that were just unbelievable. It was like walking on the surface of the Moon.
On Saturday while my son and daughter-in-law went to celebrate their anniversary we took the twins down to the San Juan River for a picnic, hike and playing around. The twins have quite imagination fighting aliens and stuff along the river. While they were doing that I was casting for trout and managed to pick up a small 13 inch rainbow. This was not the quality Waters below Navajo Lake but stream acid goes through Bloomfield New Mexico
After breakfast on Sunday we left to go back to our house in Ojo Caliente and along the way we passed Heron Lake, which is just south of Chama New Mexico. Decided to stop and try my luck.
The water at the lake was as low as I've ever seen it. In this picture that rock ledge that is behind me is where I was fishing from this summer. Water was to the top of that ledge. Amazing how low the water got with three months of no rain or snow
Didn't have any success catching fish but we did see Ospreys, bald eagles, in a number of deer. Stopped to take a picture of this young lady and she just looked at me and stuck out her tongue. Funny
After taking pictures of the deer we continued on home and went past Abiquiu Lake. Of course my truck automatically turns in that direction. Fished the Chama down below Abiquiu and it was shoulder to shoulder people down there on such a beautiful day. Did manage to pick up two smallish rainbows.
It was a pretty fun trip home. Also saw several elk out in the field below the town of Dulce New Mexico |

| Nice pics again Tom. You're missing all our lovely weather here. I guess all these places you go are public land? Seems like a lot more access to areas than Texas. |

Looking at that map I would guess maybe most of the areas not
reservation or military are open to the public. And it looks like a
LOT of areas. In the pics there doesn't seem to be a lot of people
around.Cool. Don't think Texas has near as much available.
Thanks. |
