After breakfast this morning was going to go out and do work around the house but it was such a gorgeous day with temperatures in the low forties the Sun bright and no winds, decided to take a 16-mile trip to the Rio Grande. Before I get to the river I see a red tail hawk hunting so I decided to pull over and watch it. A short while later it swoops down and picks up a rodent of some sort and flies off for lunch. Get to the river and grab my rods and started out with spinnerbaits.

Didn't have much luck with the spinnerbaits I switched over to flies. Had a red bead head nymph with a pheasant tail dropper and picked up a 16 inch rainbow trout.

A little while later while trying to cast out a little further I wound up catching a tree behind me. As I'm trying to get it down a couple that was visiting from Michigan came down and had a small ladder in there RV. Climbed up to get my lure and found that I was not the only one to catch that same tree. Wound up getting six flies of various types out of that same tree. Switched back to spinnerbaits and moved down the river a bit and caught a small brown trout and a smallmouth bass. Wind started picking up and it started getting a little cool so I started heading home. On my way cruising the river I look over and I saw a bald eagle perched upon a rock. Stopped to get a pic but it flew off before I was able to. Coming up out of the Gorge I was able to see several bighorn sheep grazing In the sun. Like I said, it was a pretty fun day on the river. Not a lot of fish but just an awesome day.

Hey Tom, 16" is pretty good rainbow isn't it? In the 40s, heck we got that here, but it's the usual overcast drizzly Corpus kind. And you know I'm out in it, not. Glad you're having nice trip. D

Nice post!
Looks like no issues with ice, always a good thing in winter.
However in looking at the cork on your fly rod I see a notch for you trigger finger.
Is there a storyline about the missing cork.
That could be a well seasoned setup?

No special story Sinker. Just a worn-out cork
