While my truck is always equipped to fish, I didn't wet a line today. I grabbed a cigar, some coffee, drove to the island and visited several spots just to look. Here's what I saw in the space of 1.5 hours:
NPJ - lots of finger mullet running inside and outside with smacks being caught on those mullet, mostly on the inside. No reds caught while I was there. A couple of Vietnamese guys were casting up bucket loads of those same finger mullet and dumping them into a big tank in the back of their truck. No opinion on this scenario but it was interesting. Another guy totally having fun catching eating size mangroves in the surf rocks. Speaking of surf, I should have brought my board as the swell was on and cranking!
SFP - Waves breaking onto the end high rocks on both jetties so never ventured out on them. Again, should have brought the board; Killer waves between the jetties!
Deadman's Hole - a few kayakers already out and some launching and a couple of waders just getting wet when I arrived. Water is WAY high. Thought about wading back into the marsh to the left of the parking pad but opted out. Saw some red tails in the flats on the right shoreline toward the Hole with the binos. Maybe another time.
Packery Park - two people shore fishing and two kayakers launching when I drove up; negative catch reports from all. Walked along the water's edge a bit to observe flow and bait presence and was mobbed by skeeters so beat feet outa there and back home.
Got a boat trip tomorrow with a fellow retiree and feel that we'll do well. Should be a good bite till mid/late morning as the moon is full tonight. Tomorrow's battle order: hit 'em early and often and take prisoners. _________________ HooYah!

So long as they were <12" - carry on!!
No size and no bag limits save for the pony/adults > 12" during October-January.
Saw a similar thing on Bob Hall Pier Wednesday. Group of guys working hard to cast net every finger mullet that swam by! |
