Me and a buddy are heading down this Sat. afternoon from Wimberley and staying until Monday for a little camping, a lot of fishing and I might just drink a beer or twelve...

This is his first excursion onto the best place in the world and I would love to put him on some fish.

Any reports on driving conditions and water conditions would be appreciated. Are the bait fish still swimming around out there?

Also, what is the status on that tide which shall not be mentioned.

Hello all,

I just wanted to give you a quick heads up.

Reports of discolored water along the southern shoreline of Corpus Christi Bay has been confirmed as Red Tide. Water samples collected at Cole Park, the end of Robert Drive, Swanter Park all contained high concentrations. A sample collected at Oso Pier contained low cell concentrations.

Light respiratory irritation was reported at the Robert Drive and Swanter Park Location.

I was just down on PINS this past weekend. 2 wheel drive was possible at low tide down to about the 17 where we camped. Sand got real skinny at night - be sure to look for a good sandy spot that backs into the dunes. We drove down to big shell a couple of times. 4WD definitely advisable there. Fishing was rough on a cold front and churned up gulf. Our group managed an under slot red, a couple of pompano, lots of skipjack and a few whiting. There were baitfish in the wash. Did not see much in the guts but it was rough. Conditions got a lot better Monday morning as we packed up to leave and the wind backed off. No fish kill present or other signs of what shall not be talked about. Of course this was all happening just as the reports about CC bay came in. Good luck and have fun!

We have a crew headed down island tomorrow morning at low tide, going to try to make it to the 60. If we can't we'll fall back to where we can camp without getting wet during the 2ft high tide Saturday night. If we make it there and I can get a signal I'll post an update.

At the 60 right now, driving past the 40's was a bit rough but workable at low tide. No sign of red tide down here. Lots of birds in the water after baitfish. Green water, but it's pretty high

Thanks for the report! I'm headed down next Weds-Fri for a couple nights. The tides are projected to be even higher at high tide then compared to right now, are there any sections of beach that might be a wash out that we should avoid?

yes, anything past the 17mm may be impassable during high tide....

Thanks Becky. We'll be headed down the beach just after low tide on Wednesday, so we should be able to make it down ok, but finding a decent nook in the dunes before the tides rise will be the tricky part!

If you travel at low tide you'll be fine. We killed it on Spanish Mackerel today. Only a couple rat reds though.

Ya that's definitely the plan! A recent post said that the brown water is back, hope fishing stays active though.
